@SpyHards Eh, I can't say I was that impressed with him.
I get what they were going for with trying to make him affably sinister, but he's almost too cheerful for me to take him seriously when he starts breaking things late in the film. Adolfo Celi at least came across as more menacing.
@stevesanderstax@JustEvilBrad It’s funny, I haven’t seen a single Carry On film, so I can’t exactly make that comparison myself. Though based on what I’ve heard, there are moments in DAF where it seems apt, mainly the Circus Circus scenes.
@trevorbaxendale Dalton has said though that he did at one point tell Cubby he was considering doing just one more film after the legal troubles were over? But Cubby told him that wouldn’t be enough after such a long gap.
That’s the story I’ve read before, at least.
Were entering the territory of “X is in the running to play James Bond” news stories now that casting has begun.
Just be mindful that most of these haven’t actually happened and it’s just their agents trying to drum up curiosity for their clients…
EXCLUSIVE: Tom Francis has auditioned to play James Bond for Amazon MGM.
• The 26-year-old British actor is best known for appearing opposite Nicole Scherzinger in the stage production of “Sunset Boulevard”
• Francis is one of many performers jockeying for the part in a
@FilmUpdates That sounds reasonable, though it depends on how long it takes for each film to come out. They might just get away with long gaps if an actor cast in their mid to late 30s finishes their tenure as Bond in their early 50s. That’s how it went with Daniel Craig’s tenure after all.
@SpyHards It’s actually grown on me these last few years. One thing I would change would be to restore the material that was deleted from Bond’s duel from Scaramanga where he’s shown to cheat by having extra golden bullets. It would make Bond’s victory a bit more satisfying.
@rharvey81970@SpyHards Considering how she first appears about half-way into Octopussy, she does make quite an impression. Maud Adams is a better actress in both films than she’s given herself credit for.
@SpyHards Honestly, I don’t mind her. She doesn’t have much agency but that sort of makes her funny at times. For instance, when she’s locked in Scaramanga’s car boot, it’s amusing how embarrassed and exasperated she sounds. Ekland is good with the comedy there.
@stevesanderstax@SpyHards It’s also impressive considering how off the rails the production went. At no point does it show in Connery’s performance how frustrated he was behind the scenes with producer Jack Schwartzman’s inexperience.
Guy Hamilton: "Hey John, give us a little something for when Bond arrives at LAX on his way to Vegas, will you?"
John Barry: Decides to absolutely cook.

@televisiondavid@SpyHards I wouldn’t say he didn’t have the acting skills to handle the sort of emotional vulnerability the script called for. His performances in The Hill and The Offence show he had range.
But OHMSS would have been a long, tough shoot, and he disliked productions being behind schedule.
The reason why it’s taking so long to make the next Bond film is because they’ve sat down to write it and remembered that in the last one they killed him.
@SpyHards I’m of the camp that he’s great in YOLT, but based on his attitude off-camera I do think the gap between him leaving in 1967 and briefly coming back in 1971 for DAF did him good. OHMSS would have been a long production even without Lazenby; Connery might’ve found it too taxing.
