The Selfish Young Woman Who Became a Saint ⤵️ If you feel like a lukewarm Catholic but secretly want a heart that's fully God's, this saint's story is proof it's not too late. She entered the convent bitter, proud, and comfortable... and stayed that way for years. Then one conversation changed everything... Before she became a saint, Hyacintha Mariscotti cared deeply about comfort, status, and getting the life she wanted. She was born in 1585 to a noble family near Viterbo, Italy. Her baptismal name was Clarice. As she grew older, she became more focused on wealth, attention, and social position. At about twenty years old, she hoped to marry a nobleman. Instead, he chose her younger sister. Clarice was deeply hurt. After this, she entered the Franciscan convent where she had once studied and received the name Hyacintha. But entering a convent did not make her holy. Hyacintha later admitted that she entered partly to hide her disappointment. She did not want to give up the comforts of her old life. For years, she kept private rooms, fine clothing, special food, and more freedom than the other sisters. She prayed and remained Catholic, but she resisted the poverty and simple life she had promised to live. She wanted religious life without the sacrifice. Then she became seriously ill. Her confessor visited her and challenged her about the way she was living. His words helped her see how far she had drifted from God. This time, she stopped making excuses. Hyacintha admitted her faults before the community. She gave up her costly things and began living with prayer, fasting, humility, and obedience. The clearest proof of her conversion was how she treated others. During an epidemic, she cared for the sick. She also helped start groups that served prisoners, poor families, people recovering from illness, and older people who needed a home. The woman who once lived for comfort began living for others. She also grew in love for the Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Child Jesus, and the Passion of Christ. Traditional Catholic accounts speak of spiritual gifts and miracles connected to her life. Hyacintha died on January 30, 1640. Pope Pius VII canonized her in 1807. Her story does not excuse her past. Pride, bitterness, and selfishness caused real harm. But her life shows that no sinner is beyond the mercy of Jesus Christ. God can change a proud, bitter, or lukewarm heart. Real conversion begins when we stop defending the habits He is asking us to leave behind. Especially for all who are separated or struggling with full communion, that Christ may heal every division and draw every heart into the fullness of truth and charity. There are many who love Christ, but do not yet share fully in visible unity with the Church He founded on Peter. This is not something to argue over with pride, but something to bring before God with humility and love. July is the month traditionally dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. ❤️ As June comes to an end, let us thank God for the blessings, lessons, and even the struggles of the past month. Some prayers have been answered. Others are still unfolding. Through it all, God has remained faithful. July is traditionally dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. His Precious Blood was poured out for our redemption. It reminds us of the great price Jesus paid to save us, the mercy He offers to every sinner, and the victory He won over sin and death through His Passion. Maybe this is the month you trust more deeply in His mercy. Maybe this is the month you return to Confession. Maybe this is the month you surrender the sin or burden you've been carrying for too long and receive the mercy Jesus won for you by His Precious Blood. As July begins, let us place our families, worries, plans, and intentions beneath the Precious Blood of Jesus. PRAY THE ROSARY. THIS IS HOW SPIRITUAL BATTLES ARE WON. The Church has never treated the Rosary as just a nice devotion. It has always encouraged it as a powerful prayer that keeps us close to Jesus through the eyes of His Mother. Fr. Gabriel Amorth, who served for many years as the chief exorcist of the Diocese of Rome, often spoke about the power of the Rosary. He said many times that the devil fears it. He also shared accounts from exorcisms in which evil spirits reacted strongly during the prayer of the Rosary. While these stories are personal testimony and not Church doctrine, they reflect what many saints and spiritual writers have said for centuries. The real power of the Rosary is not magic. It is the grace of God at work. Every Hail Mary leads us back to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The mysteries teach us to pray, trust, repent, and remain faithful. Sister Lucia of Fatima said that Our Lady gave the Rosary a special importance for our times. She wrote that there is no problem, whether personal, family, or spiritual, that cannot be helped by praying the Rosary with faith and perseverance. This does not mean every problem disappears. It means God gives the grace we need to endure, heal, and grow. The Rosary does not replace Confession or the Eucharist. It leads us back to them. It helps us return to prayer, fight temptation, and stay close to Christ when life becomes difficult. If you feel anxious, discouraged, angry, or spiritually exhausted, pick up the Rosary before you pick up your phone. Pray it slowly. Stay faithful to it. Many Catholics say they want peace, but how many are willing to spend twenty minutes a day asking God for it? When was the last time you prayed an entire Rosary from beginning to end?

"Judge the Catholic Church not by those who barely live by its spirit, but by the example of those who live closest to it." — Ven. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Ven. Fulton J. Sheen is reminding us that the Catholic Church should not be judged by the people who ignore its teachings, but by the people who truly live them. Every family has members who fail. Every hospital has sick people. The Church is no different. There have always been Catholics who fall, struggle, or even cause great harm. But the faith itself is best seen in the lives of the saints. Jesus said, “By their fruits you shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). If we want to know what Catholicism produces, we should look at the fruits. Look at the charity of Mother Teresa, the courage of Maximilian Kolbe, the humility of Thérèse of Lisieux, or the faithfulness of countless ordinary Catholics who quietly serve God every day. Many people reject the Church because of bad examples. But no one rejects medicine because some doctors fail. We judge it by the doctors who practice it well. In the same way, the Church should be judged by those who live closest to Christ. The saints are not exceptions to Catholicism. They are proof that it works. 💬 When people look at Christians today, which fruits do they see most often: the failures of believers, or the lives of those who truly live what Christ taught? Someone you know may only have seen the worst examples of faith. Sometimes one reminder of the saints can open a door that has been closed for years.

“Go to Joseph; I have never known anyone who turned to him and was not helped.” — St. Teresa of Avila 📅 June 17: Feast of the Most Chaste Heart of Joseph St. Teresa of Avila wasn't making an empty promise when she said, "Go to Joseph; I have never known anyone who turned to him and was not helped." She spent years encouraging people to trust St. Joseph because she had seen his fatherly care firsthand. Joseph doesn't replace Jesus. He always leads us to Him. The man chosen by God to protect Mary and raise the Son of God is still a powerful intercessor for the Church today. Scripture doesn't record a single word spoken by St. Joseph, yet his actions preached faith, obedience, humility, and courage. When God asked him to do something difficult, he said yes. Many of us carry burdens we don't know how to fix: financial stress, family struggles, fear about the future, loneliness, or loved ones who have drifted from God. St. Joseph reminds us that holiness is often lived quietly through faithfulness in ordinary life. You don't have to have all the answers. You simply have to trust God one step at a time. 💬 Have you ever asked for St. Joseph's intercession, and if so, what happened? Someone in your life may need the hope of a spiritual father who never stops pointing hearts back to Christ.
