The Ministry of Education has now contacted the National Mathematical Centre to request that it submit all national Olympiad competitions it organizes. They want to start sponsoring all of them to the international finals now. They have started contacting schools already. This was abandoned in 2019. I hope they don’t politicize it. @winexviv We can also compete here also @VEXRobotics I was in Texas as a judge last year, by God's grace, I'll be in Morocco this year. If we can get a team from any school in SE with adequate sponsorship, I can facilitate their participation.

I'm thinking we should have an annual Best Teacher Award where the best teacher each year wins ₦100 million. We can have other categories too. Something like a Grammy to celebrate and inspire teachers. What do you think?

Why does Immunoglobulins Class Switch ? Immunoglobulins (antibodies) class switch through a process called isotype switching (changing one type of antibody to another). This allows the immune system to change the effector function (the job the antibody does) without altering its specificity (which exact germ it targets). 1. Different pathogens (germs that cause disease) require different weapons. IgM is the first antibody produced. It is good at activating complement (a group of proteins that help destroy germs) but poor at binding to phagocytes. IgM acts as an early alarm. IgG can cross the placenta (the organ that connects mother and baby during pregnancy) to protect newborns, enter tissues easily, and bind strongly to phagocytes via Fc receptors (special docking sites on immune cells). IgG is effective against bacteria and viruses in the blood. IgA is specialized for mucosal surfaces (moist linings of the gut, lungs, mouth, and nose). IgA prevents pathogens from attaching to and entering the body through these areas. IgE is designed to fight parasites and is also involved in allergic reactions. 2. To avoid wasting resources. Initially, B cells (a type of white blood cell) make IgM. If the body kept making only IgM against a virus, the virus might survive. By switching to IgG, the immune system can recruit natural killer cells (immune cells that kill virus infected cells), enhance phagocytosis (the process of a cell eating a germ), and neutralize toxins more efficiently. 3. To protect different body locations. A pathogen in the bloodstream needs a different type of antibody than the same pathogen trying to enter through the gut or lungs. Class switching allows the same B cell clone (a group of identical cells) to produce IgA for the gut lining or IgG for the blood and tissues. This is how it works 👇🏼 When a B cell is activated by helper T cells (immune cells that assist B cells) through a CD40L CD40 interaction (a specific handshake between two cell surface proteins), and influenced by cytokines (chemical messengers that direct immune responses), the B cell deletes a section of its DNA. This brings a different constant region gene (the part of DNA that determines which type of antibody is made) next to the variable region (the part that recognizes the specific germ). The B cell then produces a new isotype (antibody class) but recognizes the exact same antigen (the germ's unique marker). In short, class switching tailors the antibody to the threat. IgM for early response, IgG for blood and tissues, IgA for mucosal surfaces, and IgE for parasites. Without class switching, the immune system would be like a mechanic trying to fix every car with only a hammer. #ImmunoTutes
