Time management is a con artist in a slick suit. Here's why you need to decouple your productivity from time management: Some days I feel like a circus performer, trying to juggle my time. It goes back to my to my elementary school days. I was that kid: the one with unfinished assignments crushed down in the bottom of my backpack. The one teachers couldn’t handle because my attention pinged all over the place This was back in the day before we handed out diagnostic labels to distracted young lads. Back before we medicated the hell out of them so they could sit still in a chair for 8 mind-numbing hours. And since School hated me, I did what came natural: I returned the favor and hated it back. Yet, outside those four walls? I was living large, diving into D&D manuals, typing up storms on my dad's old-school Timex Sinclair (yep, I'm that old), and being all-around productive. No timers. No alarms. Just pure, unbridled energy. So please allow me to destroy your favorite cult-metric: Time Management is a glamorous lie; the real gold is Attention Control. Time Management's only value is to synchronize with other people so you can locate each-other at the same point in time & space. Read that again 👆🏼 Back in the day, the Industrial Revolution had everyone dancing like clockwork cogs to the same time-tuned rhythm. Fast forward to our era of WFHers and solopreneurs, and it's a whole new ballgame. Your problem isn't time – it’s your ATTENTION that's being hijacked 24/7. Remember that time when Leila Hormozi flexed her calendar and everybody lost their friggin' mind? Well, what Leila didn't tell you is that her calendar has little-to-nothing to do with her productivity. Because it's not about those blocks of time (anxiety-inducing as they are). It's how she channels her attention. When your attention is hijacked by distractions and interruptions—your time supply vanishes... without you even noticing. Bottom line: If you don't control your attention, your time management effort is a crock. Because attention is the control dial of Time. Time is dynamic– it shrinks and stretches with your attention. When you focus on what's important and eliminate distractions, you're present in the moment, controlling its flow. And the more present you are, the smoother your brain runs, and the more time stretches. "But cLiNt, It'S nOt sTrEtChInG, iT's JuSt YoUr PeRcEpTiOn." Yes, time perception is your time reality. Don't believe me? Take note of what time it is now—then go on TikTok for awhile… And after you come out of that trance (because that's what it is), I want you notice what happened to your time. Poof. 💨 You see, attention is the bottleneck of human thought and activity– not time. Protect it, control it, and get shit done. Here are some tips: • Remove distractions. Don't just manage them. • Singletask to give tasks the attention they deserve. • Practice mindfulness to improve focus and clarity. • Use the Pomodoro Technique to fall into deep work and avoid burnout. Embrace attention control and make the most of NOW. Attention control is your top priority— not time management.
