@HannahDCox But if, as a society, we want to increase birth rates, we need to do a better job of supporting families, which is more of a cultural thing than a policy thing. Newborns are a ton of work.

@HannahDCox I literally just had a very wanted baby and do plan on more eventually. The potential $5K won't change that and won't make me have baby #2 faster. What would've made me have kids sooner would be meeting the right man sooner. I had my son before our 2nd wedding anniversary.

@datepsych I think an effective intervention would be to have a variety of activities. A my HS, the football & basketball teams were well funded. Baseball, Soccer, Ag Ed, & others had to fundraise. There wasn't shop. The sports program only benefited the few who made the varsity teams.

@alyoshak00 @datepsych I think all kids (girls too) need extra curricular activities. Sports are only one of multiple great options for boys. Others include: Agricultural Education (FFA), Shop, Theater, Music (Marching Band, Choir, Orchestra), & Scouts. Shop & FFA teach career skills.

@HannahDCox Why are the parents just letting the baby cry? I literally have a newborn now and that is not how you are supposed to respond to crying. Ignoring crying in babies is not good for their development. Parents should take baby out and see if he/she needs diaper/food/attention.

6 weeks in, hopefully just another couple to go. I am beyond ready to be home with my son. He's getting bigger and stronger everyday and is now working on learning to take food by mouth (instead of his NG tube).

@AfrPotterhead @jk_rowling Same here. I've been reading Philosopher's Stone (beautiful illustrated ed) to my son the past week while we've been in the hospital. Its a very welcome distraction. He was born premature and has a bit more to go before we can go home. He likes it (or at least he likes my voice)

This NICU stay has thus far been a rollercoaster ride. A month in and at least a month likely to go. We had to stop feeding progress to deal with a UTI that put baby back on breathing support.

Basically it was because I had to be flighted to hospital with a NICU since baby was so early, and labor just happened far faster than typical.

So I nearly gave birth in the back of helicopter three weeks ago and now I have a super cute preemie son. I'm pretty much recovered from giving birth but my baby still has at least a few more weeks in the NICU.

So far we've been reading classic picture books like Dr. Seuss and the Little Golden Books. I try to read to him daily so something like a chapter of HP per day would probably work. Today we read "And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street" By Dr. Seuss.

I'm thinking of rereading Harry Potter by reading it out loud to my new little one during his reading time. He's a preemie newborn so it's more about getting language exposure and bonding at this time anyways.

I also hope they manage to show more of the different classes, the trio completing homework and assignments. The 'boring' stuff that was the first to be cut from the films but actually provides so much context and really brings Hogwarts as a school to life! 😍

So I saw the new Moana movie; it was disappointing. It felt like it was a conc ept that could have been great with a bit more work. The music was not up to the standard that I used to expect with Disney.
