🦋🌸 Don't just flutter by. Stop and celebrate with us! 💚 It's National Pollinator Week, and we are highlighting these tiny travelers. 🌿 Butterflies, bats and bees benefit our plants and ecosystems. Native plants rely on these essential pollinators to help them produce offspring (seeds and fruit) needed for their species to thrive and grow. 🌻 You can encourage pollination in your yard by diversifying your home’s landscape and planting an array of foliage and flowers.

👀 Why do we demuck from navigational boat locks and navigational channels leading up to boat locks? 🚤 To maintain safe and efficient passage for vessels. 💧 This week, demucking is taking place on and around a boat lock in Okeechobee County as part of the @SFWMD's low Lake Okeechobee water level plan. ✅ 👏 Removing the muck can also remove excess nutrients and improve oxygen levels in the water. In addition, this project will improve access for boating, improve wildlife habitat and will help benefit the economies of local communities and the overall health of Lake Okeechobee. 🔗 Visit SFWMD.gov/Navigation for the latest information.

🤝 Partnership in Action! 🌿 @SFWMD and Ducks Unlimited teamed up to restore more than 185 acres of wetlands in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes Wildlife Management Area in Polk County. 💧 The Rolling Meadows Restoration Project restores and enhances floodplain habitat along the southwestern shore of Lake Hatchineha. ✨ These partnerships help ensure that these lands are restored and protected for the people and the environment of South Florida.

🏗️📣 Major progress alert on an important component of the Blue Shanty Flow Way! The S-355 gated spillway structure is under construction and the public access bridge slabs have been completed. This structure will allow water to flow from Water Conservation 3A into Everglades National Park. 🚜🖊️ The Blue Shanty Flow Way is being expedited thanks to the landmark agreement to accelerate Everglades restoration that was signed in July 2025 by @GovRonDeSantis and @USArmy. This crucial project will unlock a vital system to deliver clean water south across Tamiami Trail and into Florida Bay. 👏 Thank you to our incredible staff who are working every day to restore the #Everglades and improve our water resources.

🐊 Swampy, single and ready to mingle! 🌞🏖️ I enjoy long swims in the swamp, basking in the sun and catching my own dinner. Sharing the catch is negotiable. 💚 If you’re chomping at the bit to connect with a reptile who has a sharp wit and a snappy personality, double tap and let’s make a splash together. 🗓️ Alligator mating season is currently underway. Mating usually occurs in May or June, followed by females building a nest and laying eggs in late June or early July. Eggs generally hatch in late August or early September. 🥚 #NaturePhotographyDay

🤝 @SFWMD scientists teamed up with UF/IFAS scientists to research best plant management practices to use inside Everglades stormwater treatment areas. 🌱 Over 1 million plants were planted in the STAs during the last water year. For the STAs to function properly, it is essential these areas contain the right plants and are kept free of invasive aquatic vegetation. 💧 STAs are specifically designed to improve water quality and reduce nutrient pollution before water enters the Everglades. 👏

🚩 Navigation Notice 🚩 ⚠️ The S-65 Boat Lock on Lake Kissimmee in Osceola County near the Polk County line will temporarily close next week for routine maintenance. 🗓️ The boat lock will close at 7:30 p.m. after its normal operating hours on Sunday, June 14, 2026, and will re-open at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026. Boaters will not be able to lock through the structure and should make alternate plans. 🔗 Visit SFWMD.gov/Navigation for more details.

💧 Working to improve the health of Lake Okeechobee! 🌱 @SFWMD Executive Director Drew Bartlett along with members of the County Coalition saw the muck/vegetation removal in action on Lake Okeechobee. 👏 The District is working with @MyFWC as they remove over 285 acres of aquatic vegetation including thick cattail and willow as well as muck from the lake bottom. 💧 Benefits of this work include improved habitat for fish, waterfowl, wading bids and other wildlife populations, while also allowing for improved lake access for anglers, boaters and hunters.
