A major new report warns that global wildlife populations have been cut in half in just four decades due to unsustainable human consumption and widespread habitat destruction. According to the Living Planet Report by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), average monitored wildlife populations declined by 50% between 1970 and 2010. The Living Planet Index, which tracked more than 10,000 populations across roughly 3,000 vertebrate species, paints a sobering picture of humanity’s impact on biodiversity. Freshwater ecosystems were hit hardest, suffering a 75% decline due to pollution, water extraction, and dam construction. Terrestrial and marine populations both fell by around 40%, driven by habitat loss and overexploitation. The underlying driver is humanity’s expanding ecological footprint. Global consumption already requires the resources of 1.5 Earths to sustain. This burden is highly unequal: the average U.S. resident would need nearly four Earths, while the average UK resident would require 2.5 Earths. Wealthier nations often export their environmental impact through imported goods linked to deforestation and habitat destruction in developing countries. The report calls for urgent global action, including a shift to sustainable food systems, greater resource equity, and stronger habitat protection to reverse these trends. [WWF. (2014). The Source Community opened 2026 with a strong start. The March 4th meeting brought together member governments to align on a single objective: exchanging ideas and growing together to create investment‑ready infrastructure pipelines through structured, high‑quality data.  Four new governments joined the Community Brazil, Ghana, Madagascar and Pakistan bringing the total to 18. Their entry reflects the accelerating global shift toward standardised, interoperable project preparation.  ADB shared a real world application through the Qarakhach Wind Power Plant, showing how Source streamlines documentation, reduces duplication and improves engagement with governments and investors.   The path forward is clear: transform structured data into reliable, investment‑ready infrastructure pipelines at scale. Launch of the SOURCE pilot phase in Madagascar Thanks to the support of the @AFD_France , the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) officially launched the pilot phase of the SOURCE platform in Madagascar from September 23 to 25, 2025. This mission marked a key milestone in strengthening the country’s capacity to plan, assess, and manage sustainable infrastructure projects through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). - 6 pilot projects were created in SOURCE, including 3 in transport and 3 in the energy sector. - 25+ users from 5 key ministries were trained, including the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Energy, PPP Unit, Ministry of Finance and Agency for Rural Electrification. - A national administrator for SOURCE was successfully identified and trained - 8 public and private partners were involved in the pilot phase public.sif-source.org/mdbs-infra-new…

Fourth and final IWG meeting of the G20 for 2025 The Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation was honoured to participate in the 4th and final meeting of the G20 Infrastructure Working Group, held at the beautiful Norval Foundation in Cape Town, South Africa, from 22–23 September 2025. Our CEO joined fellow IWG colleagues from around the world for two days of productive discussions and collaboration on advancing sustainable infrastructure. Day One featured rich seminars on social infrastructure, the role of development finance institutions, and cross-border infrastructure topics. The day concluded with a memorable evening cocktail event at a prestigious Cape Town winery, offering excellent opportunities for further discussion and networking. Day Two focused on reviewing the 2025 IWG deliverables for all three priorities and sharing outcomes. We were proud to see the Priority One Framework presented by the World Bank Group and our fellow colleagues and co-authors for the deliverables under Priority One, a highlight that celebrated months of work. We thank the South African Presidency for their leadership and our colleagues across the Priority One team for their dedication in driving all deliverables to completion. Over the course of these two days, we also took the opportunity to meet with a wide range of important stakeholders to align on our continued strategy and revenue model for 2025–2030. We are committed to working towards a self-sustaining model, and the future of SIF is looking strong. We have a wide range of business intelligence solutions in the pipeline, informed by excellent discussions and innovative ideas generated through this year’s collaboration with G20 members and invited countries. This meeting marked a strong conclusion to the 2025 IWG series and sets the stage for meaningful impact on the G20’s work ahead. Le ministre de l’Économie, du Plan et de la Coopération, @RahmaneSARR , a lancé, ce mardi 5 août 2025, la plateforme de digitalisation de partenariats public-privé (#PPP) au Sénégal. Cette dernière, dénommée SOURCE SÉNÉGAL, va offrir « aux autorités contractantes la possibilité de mener l’ensemble de la procédure de passation d’un contrat de PPP de manière digitalisée », a déclaré Abdourahmane Sarr. Celui-ci a rappelé que la digitalisation de l’Administration publique est au cœur de la transformation nationale. « SOURCE PPP Sénégal apporte des avancées majeures et s’inscrit pleinement dans cette dynamique, en offrant une plateforme digitale répondant aux exigences de rapidité, de conformité et d’efficacité, avec une accessibilité nationale assurant une diffusion homogène des appels à projets et des contrats #PPP, un processus entièrement digitalisé, de la préparation à la signature, pour réduire les délais et les coûts administratifs, une conformité avec les meilleures pratiques, les standards internationaux et la loi n°2021-23 du 2 mars 2021 relative aux contrats de PPP », a expliqué le ministre. Abdourahmane Sarr invite les ministères, les sociétés nationales et les agences d’exécution à s’approprier la plateforme et de l’intégrer dans leur processus interne. Pour le ministre, l’engagement de toutes les parties prenantes va garantir la réussite de cette transformation numérique. g20.org/g20-media/thir… The G20 Finance Ministers also endorsed two deliverables: A Practice Guide on leveraging infrastructure project-level data and digitalising the pipeline and a Note on Improving Availability and Accessibility of Market Data. Collectively, these reports will support credible pipeline development by addressing data challenges that hinder substantial private sector participation in public infrastructure development. SIF developed the Practice Guide based on interviews from all G20 members and invited countries, and it is based on the methodology SIF developed to implement Source and the recommendation is that Source can help whether national platforms exist or not. Finally, SIF extends its warmest thanks to G20 South Africa Presidency for its leadership and vision !
