@weiiiiiiiiiigh @sebbiep @_Unknown_D_ Locums pick up the slack when there is a shortage, don't they? I have relatives who are doctors, they've retired because they don't consider it worth their while even doing locum work. The tax is too great. IR35 doesn't help with that.

@weiiiiiiiiiigh @sebbiep @_Unknown_D_ You still have to pay more tax than employee does. You have to pick up the employers NI as part of your rate. And it's only a choice to a certain point, agencies dictate the umbrella company you have to use. The choice is not taking the job.

@SpoonofHead @_Unknown_D_ That doesn't apply when you hot £100k because of the marginal rate. You are better off earnjng £99.9k rather than £110k if you have kids... That's why no-one bothers earning more than £100k unless you are earnjng £130k +.
