Zanu PF has entered an obscene yet strange season of extreme capture by moneyed interests and cashvists loyal to no principles but money. They will buy this or that interest, and create some semblance of strengthening the party by throwing around greenbacks for loyalty in a fashion unprecedented in the history of the party of Zimbabwe’s liberation. The recently acquired cash, not acquired through ingenuity or problem-solving capitalism, is being thrown around all over the place to build cells of loyalty within factions in a disquieting and unprecedented fashion couched in phrases like “go and see Victor” or “$10000 cash” to so and so. This is not and should not be the principled politics of the revolutionary party that went through operation restore legacy.

Saturday Opinion💡 Personally, my gripe with CAB-3 is the shortcuts to power without following a complete constitutional cycle. If all the 13+ proposed changes to the Constitution are truly sound, they should pass the test of public scrutiny. The 16+ million Zimbabweans ought to have a direct say, not just 300+ Members of Parliament whose independence is often questionable and, at times, compromised by political expediency. Secondly, if the President wanted additional years to his tenure, that mandate must come from the people of Zimbabwe through a transparent and constitutionally grounded process not through Parliament stretching its authority beyond representing the will of the electorate. Constitutional legitimacy is not manufactured in the corridors of power; it is earned through the consent of the governed. There is no doubt President Emmerson Mnangagwa has had moments of progress in his tenure, but that can not be used as a justification to dilute constitutional safeguards. In fact, the true test of leadership is respect for institutional limits, not the ability to navigate around them. Zimbabwe’s Constitution is very clear: presidential term limits and the manner in which leaders are elected are foundational democratic principles, not technicalities, to be adjusted for convenience. Any attempt to alter them without broad-based citizen participation undermines the very spirit of constitutionalism. If CAB-3 is genuinely about stability and reform, then let it go through the highest standard of democratic legitimacy, a REFERENDUM. Anything less feeds the perception that this is not about national interest but about consolidating power through procedural shortcuts. A Constitution must protect citizens from power, not protect power from citizens. This is the message I will keep hammering on this platform! Danko!!!

Please post for me. I lost my father in November 2025. He had a Life Assurance Policy with Fidelity Life for more than 10 years. During that time, USD $12 was deducted from his salary every month, as he was a government teacher. After his burial, we went to the Fidelity Life offices in Harare (along Julius Nyerere Way) to make a claim. We were told the money would be deposited into my mother’s account in February 2026. February came, but nothing was deposited. I went back to their offices, and they told me to come back the following Friday. We waited, but still nothing. After two more weeks, I returned again. This time, they told me that only USD $38 and 2000 ZiG would be deposited into my mother’s account the next week. After more than 10 years of deductions from my father’s salary, this is all my mother is expected to receive, and even that has not yet been paid. Fidelity Life is a scam. Others should be careful. @FidelityLifeZW
