As game 2 is tipping off soon, a quick look back in regards to what Stephanie White had to say following the game 1 loss: Imagine your coach being so bothered by social media discourse, that it's hindering her ability to focus on the game. Imagine A'ja scoring 22 f***ing points in the first half, and your coach makes ZERO adjustments in the second half. Imagine, after getting destroyed in the opening game of the playoffs, your coach tells reporters that your opponent was SUPPOSED to win game one, instead of having the mindset that YOU'RE supposed to win and go back to Indiana to close out the series. Imagine your coach telling the reporters you needed to make MICRO adjustments (and even then, you made none). Imagine your coach telling reporters that you need to be humbled.

The fact is that Gaza is not what you see when they start a war and lose. Gaza is what you see when they turn the majority of their civilian infrastructure into dual-purpose military installations (as a war crime and staging area for war crimes) and dig about 400 miles of terror tunnels with 5700+ shafts opening into all manner of neighborhoods and structures and then start a war from that platform and lose.

HOW MANY YEARS OF INJURIES DOES IT TAKE BEFORE WE’RE ALLOWED TO QUESTION STEPHANIE WHITE’S WORKLOAD? Because at this point, stop looking at ONE Fever season. Look at the pattern across her coaching career. 2015 Fever — multiple key players dealing with injuries. 2016 Fever — Briann January coming back from major knee surgery. Vanderbilt — significant injuries, including leading scorer Brinae Alexander suffering a season-ending Achilles tear. 2023 Sun — Brionna Jones ruptures her Achilles after 13 games. 2025 Fever — Caitlin Clark battles quad, groin and other lower-body issues. Sophie Cunningham tears her MCL. Sydney Colson tears her ACL. Aari McDonald fractures her foot. Chloe Bibby suffers a season-ending knee injury. 2026 Fever — more injuries, including Tyasha Harris suffering a season-ending broken fibula. And here’s the part people keep ignoring👇🏽 Not every injury is the same. Broken bones, contact injuries and ACL/MCL/Achilles tears have different mechanisms and I’m NOT claiming Stephanie White caused them. But Clark’s recurring quad/groin-type soft-tissue problems are EXACTLY why workload and recovery deserve to be part of this conversation. Soft-tissue injuries can be associated with fatigue, accumulated workload and insufficient recovery. Now combine THAT with Sophie Cunningham publicly questioning why Indiana was still having roughly 2–2½-HOUR HARD PRACTICES late in the season, including full-court work against male practice players, instead of accomplishing the work in 80–90 minutes. That should raise questions. Professional coaching isn’t about proving who can survive the hardest practice. It’s about getting your players to the games HEALTHY and prepared. One injury is unfortunate. Multiple injuries can be coincidence. Crash (@CrashDavis8), this deserves something warmer and more reflective than a normal reply because I wanted you to understand how much these words mean to me. You have been here all season. You have read the articles, joined the conversations, challenged ideas, added your own basketball knowledge and supported Sports Patriot long before there was any reason to know where this account might go. When someone who has been part of that entire journey takes the time to write something like this, it hits differently. When I started Sports Patriot, one of the things bothering me most was the way so many people who had recently discovered the WNBA were being dismissed as “new fans” who supposedly didn’t understand basketball. I kept watching people raise completely legitimate questions about what they were seeing on the floor, only to be told they didn’t know the game because they hadn’t been following the league long enough. That never sat right with me. Over the course of this season, something became very clear. A huge number of these so-called new fans were anything but basketball novices. They had played the game, coached it, raised children through it, studied it for decades and understood far more about basketball than they were being given credit for. You were one of those people. So were many of the people who gathered around this account. And somewhere along the way, Sports Patriot stopped feeling like one person writing opinions about the Indiana Fever and started feeling like a basketball conversation involving thousands of people who genuinely care about the game. That has probably been the most rewarding part of this entire season for me. People have sent me film clips I missed. Coaches have explained concepts from perspectives I hadn’t considered. Readers have dug through statistics, contracts, rules and old interviews. People have challenged me when they thought I was wrong and, more than once, caused me to go back, study something again and change my opinion. I have learned an enormous amount from all of you. That is why I have never wanted Sports Patriot to become an echo chamber where everyone has to agree with me. Some of the best conversations we have had started because somebody respectfully said, “I see this differently.” That is basketball. What brought so many of us together was the feeling that the actual basketball conversation was getting lost. We wanted to talk about officiating. Coaching. Defensive coverages. Rotations. Player development. Roster construction. Salary-cap decisions. League leadership. Front-office accountability. We wanted to understand why certain things kept happening and why obvious problems seemed to survive month after month without being corrected. Too often, asking those questions brought labels instead of answers. People who arrived because of Caitlin Clark were dismissed as outsiders. Criticism was sometimes treated as hostility toward the league. Questions about basketball decisions were too easily brushed aside because they challenged an established narrative. So we kept asking them anyway. And what I think this community has helped demonstrate is that welcoming millions of new people into women’s basketball should never require them to surrender their basketball knowledge at the door. They came because something captured their attention. Many stayed because they fell in love with the game. And once they started watching closely, they began seeing things they wanted explained. That scrutiny should be healthy for the WNBA. Growth brings more eyes, more expectations and more accountability. Every professional sports league eventually faces that transition. The commissioner’s office deserves scrutiny. Officiating deserves scrutiny. Ownership deserves scrutiny. Front offices deserve scrutiny. Coaches deserve scrutiny. Players deserve scrutiny. That scrutiny comes with relevance. And through all of it, I hope we have stayed focused on what Sports Patriot was supposed to be from the beginning: a place where basketball people could speak honestly about basketball without being told they weren’t qualified to have an opinion because they arrived at the WNBA later than somebody else. There is still a lot ahead of us. Tonight, the Indiana Fever have a chance to pull off something special and keep this season alive. I hope with everything I have that they do, because I am nowhere near ready for this season to end. Whenever it eventually does end, the conversation will continue. The WNBA is approaching one of the most consequential leadership decisions in its history with the selection of its next commissioner. Fans should pay very close attention to whether that choice signals a willingness to examine what has gone wrong and build upon what has gone right. The Fever will have serious decisions of their own. The structure of the front office deserves examination. The salary-cap situation deserves examination. The coaching staff deserves examination. Indiana has assembled too much talent to settle for anything less than experienced basketball leadership capable of teaching the game, understanding X’s and O’s, communicating effectively with women athletes and putting every player in a position to succeed. Those conversations are coming. Today, though, I just want to say thank you. Thank you, Crash, for being here. Thank you for reading. Thank you for engaging. Thank you for contributing your own knowledge and helping make me better at what I am trying to do. And thank you to everyone else who has done the same. Some of you have been here every day. Some quietly read without ever commenting. Some send messages. Some bring statistics. Some bring film. Some bring decades of coaching experience. Some simply bring a different perspective that forces the rest of us to think a little harder. All of it has made Sports Patriot better. There have been nights when I have stayed up far too late watching film or researching something because one of you raised a question I couldn’t stop thinking about. There have been mornings when I wondered whether writing another 2,000 words about weak-side help defense was bordering on insanity. Then I read something like this. And I remember why I keep doing it. The kind words genuinely mean the world to me, but the greatest compliment you could give Sports Patriot is saying that something written here helped you see the game differently or taught you something you didn’t know before. Because you all have done the same for me. We have learned a lot together this season. We have disagreed. We have argued. We have laughed. We have gotten frustrated. And through all of it, we kept coming back to the same place. We love basketball. So thank you, my friend. Truly. And thank you to everyone who has taken this ride with me. Hopefully we have a miracle left in us tonight. After that, there is still plenty of work to do.

Ok, you have a point. But Caitlin can’t help being Caitlin. As great as she is, she has always been a team player first, showering praise on the great players who came before her, always sharing credit with her teammates. We live in a cynical world that might see this as an act. But we who have watched her at Iowa since early days know that this is who she really is. She can’t be anything other than this team player because then she wouldn’t be Caitlin. That’s one of the reasons we love her. Does she have an ego? Sure. Does she get frustrated when her coach, teammates, ref, screw things up? Sure. But Caitlin has always been team first, I am afraid even when that priority might hurt the team, because Stephanie White is clearly hurting the team.

There has never been anything “kind” about a movement that demands you stop trusting your own eyes. Ask a question? You’re hateful. Notice a contradiction? You’re dangerous. Disagree? You’re denying someone’s humanity. Since when did kindness require intellectual surrender? A belief system that is true should be able to survive scrutiny. And if you have to be taught that asking questions is itself an act of cruelty, perhaps the question worth asking is: What are you being asked not to question?
