This week's sprint will involve working on my portfolio, resume, and personal website. I want to try building in public more, so I'll be sharing updates about that and would love feedback or advice. Feel free to jump in! 🙏

Having multiple projects in parallel ain't easy. Currently experimenting with the idea of breaking new features into five-day sprints starting on Mondays, with a forced release on Fridays. Every Monday is a new sprint with a clear goal in mind, feels great.

Posting on social networks feels so awkward; it completely leaves me with a cringe feeling. I assume it's just discomfort from not being used to it, and that with time, this should fade away. All tips are welcome! 😄

I always slow down during July and August to enjoy time with friends and family, but September is here, and it's time to be productive! 💪 I am still looking for work and will probably spend the next few days updating my profiles and be sharing about it.

A month ago, I shared that I was open to new work opportunities and received lots of messages from people I haven't talked to in years. I am so grateful to be surrounded by so many nice people. This has made me realize how important networking is and that I want do more of it 🙌

Going to be more active here sharing content about my pivot from crypto. I've never been really good with social networks, it's all quite intimidating to me, but will try and be okay as long as it helps me keep moving forward. Let's do it 💪, all support will be very welcome.

STACK OVERFLOW JUST ANNOUNCED THEIR OWN AI!!! OverflowAI is a tool, that will also have a VS Code plugin. The way this works, if you are on the site and ask a question, it will produce the answer for you while also citing the sources it used to produce the answer. You can then ask more in the conversational area, even including code, and through Generative AI it can continue building off of the answer. This is the right move on their part and I am confident a lot of people will be trying it out. Everything releases in August! Great job @StackOverflow. Really great announcement at the @WeAreDevs Conference!

Google presents AudioPaLM: A Large Language Model That Can Speak and Listen paper page: huggingface.co/papers/2306.12… introduce AudioPaLM, a large language model for speech understanding and generation. AudioPaLM fuses text-based and speech-based language models, PaLM-2 [Anil et al., 2023] and AudioLM [Borsos et al., 2022], into a unified multimodal architecture that can process and generate text and speech with applications including speech recognition and speech-to-speech translation. AudioPaLM inherits the capability to preserve paralinguistic information such as speaker identity and intonation from AudioLM and the linguistic knowledge present only in text large language models such as PaLM-2. We demonstrate that initializing AudioPaLM with the weights of a text-only large language model improves speech processing, successfully leveraging the larger quantity of text training data used in pretraining to assist with the speech tasks. The resulting model significantly outperforms existing systems for speech translation tasks and has the ability to perform zero-shot speech-to-text translation for many languages for which input/target language combinations were not seen in training. AudioPaLM also demonstrates features of audio language models, such as transferring a voice across languages based on a short spoken prompt.
