Their original homeland is not Shusha lol. It is well documented they came to the region 3.5 centuries ago, were deported and then came back a century later. Azerbaijanis on average have been in Armenians lands for shorter period than whites have been in the USA.

Turkey economy is built on property stolen from Armenians,greeks and Assyrians. In the Sèvres Agreement, there were articles requiring the return of property stolen from indigenous Armenians. Instead of returning what was taken from the indigenous Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian communities, Turkey started another war and seized even more land and property from Armenians. This is why, for example, Mount Ararat, the national symbol of Armenians, is today located within the borders of what is now called Turkey. Until today, none of this stolen property has been returned. Under Atatürk’s rule, the theft of property and the genocide were effectively legitimized and became embedded in the foundations of the Turkish Republic. Discussing the genocide is criminalized because the state was founded on the history and consequences of that genocide. The economic dimension of the genocide was crucial: Turkey was on the losing side of the First World War, facing a severe economic crisis, and the government chose to blame indigenous communities and confiscate everything they owned. This is how the Turkish Republic was created, and its economy has been fundamentally built on property stolen from indigenous Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians.

Greek Orthodox Christians in Maaloula, Syria, have raised a giant illuminated cross above the historic Christian village, creating a powerful symbol of faith and resilience in one of the Middle East’s oldest Christian communities. Perched high in the Qalamoun Mountains, Maaloula is one of Syria’s most important Christian settlements and one of the few places in the world where Western Aramaic, the language traditionally associated with Jesus Christ, continues to be spoken. The village lies approximately 65 kilometers northeast of Damascus at an elevation of around 1,600 meters. The illuminated cross stands as a highly visible expression of Christian identity above the mountainous landscape. In Maaloula, crosses have long been an integral part of the village’s religious character, with illuminated crosses visible above churches and monasteries after nightfall. Maaloula has a particularly strong connection to the Greek Orthodox tradition. The village is home to the historic Greek Orthodox Convent of Saint Thecla, administered by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch. The monastery is built around the grotto associated with Saint Thecla and remains an important Christian pilgrimage site. The raising of the cross also carries a deeper historical meaning for Maaloula. The village has traditionally celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14, a major religious celebration during which Christian communities gather, processions take place and large crosses are displayed on the surrounding hills. Maaloula’s Christian population has endured enormous upheaval during Syria’s civil war. In 2013, the town was seized by rebel forces, while churches and monasteries suffered extensive damage and numerous residents were forced to flee. The Greek Orthodox Convent of Saint Thecla was among the religious sites affected, and 13 nuns and three assistants were kidnapped before later being released. Despite the destruction and displacement, Christianity remains deeply rooted in Maaloula. Recent reporting has highlighted efforts by residents to rebuild their community, preserve their ancient religious traditions and maintain the Aramaic language that has survived in the region for centuries. The giant illuminated cross therefore represents more than a religious monument. For the Greek Orthodox Christians of Maaloula, it stands as a declaration that their faith, heritage and centuries-old Christian presence continue to endure in the Syrian mountains. #archaeohistories
