@larry_levitt The financial modeling all assumes Medicare rates, which makes it interesting to me that supporters insist on a government run system rather than simply decreeing price controls and seeing what happens.
The reason tech companies aren't demanding Medicare for all is that depending on how you paid for it their employees would pay between $70k and $100k a year for it. More, if the taxes are progressive rather than flat rate.
Honestly, big tech firms and their CEOs should get behind universal health care. All that employer-sponsored health insurance does for them is raise their costs. Zuck coming out in support of Medicare for All would be a public relations win and socially beneficial. Tech can throw

The alternative is paying 20-30% of everything you make to the government, and getting back extended wait times from a collapsing system. A family of schoolteachers making $140k a year and paying $42k of that for health care isn't going to tolerate waiting 6 weeks for their sick child to see a nurse with an online degree to get a $4 antibiotic.
@ajlamesa @AHIPCoverage ESI plans are the only place with any innovation and where major savings are possible. The "junk" employers are getting is just how the math works under the ACA. When you're overpaying for drug rehab, routine care, birth control, etc of course the price goes up.

The average home today was built in 1980. Assuming you're talking NEW homes, yeah, the modern ones actually perform worse in fires because of composite lumber and trusses with exposed metal fasteners. The code requires sprinklers but most places pass a local amendment to omit them because they are expensive. What makes houses safer? The smoke detectors. Modern smokes were invented in the 60s and required by NFPA in 1976. That's basically the whole story. There's been some improvements in wiring and garage fire doors and such... but it's mostly smokes.
