Personally I am not sure where to stand on this; I can understand why genAI could be useful enough in conceptualizing (esp early genAI models that were more messy/less refined), but if you're a professional artist, how do you accept using tools that exploited your fellow artists?

Coming out of my cave for this; but you're missing the point you just made saying that the hate directed is ignorant. "We are against genAI trained on real artowork" The problem is that the model Larian used was also trained by exploiting artists even if it's only for concept art

Concept Artist here, the "AI hate" directed at Larian Studio is 100% ignorant and bad faith virtue-signaling. Artists are NOT against AI usage as a tool, we're against Generative AI that was trained on real artworks and mass-produced "slops" that imitated our hard work and then

I haven't drawn anything in a while. To be quite honest, after I didn't get into any con I applied to, it kind of demotivated me. I was really looking forward to meet people with similar interests and yap about the games I like and show people my work. It is life.
