During COVID, I was called a quack. I was silenced. I was denigrated. The medical board was even alerted in an attempt to remove my medical license. I spoke out against masking, which I believe has no scientific evidence to prevent the spread of a respiratory viral illness. I spoke in favor of hydroxychloroquine first, and ivermectin, both of which have been around for generations and have PROVEN safety records. I spoke out against the experimental mRNA COVID 💉, which I believe is now showing serious safety concerns, including what I describe as turbo cancers. I chose to exercise my First Amendment right to speak out against what I believe is fraud! Fraud in science, fraud in government, and to advocate for informed consent in an effort to bring you the truth. Pharmacist handed me someone else's medication and I didn't realize until I got home. Opened the bag. Pills I'd never seen before. Name on the bottle said "Robert Chen." I'm not Robert Chen. Drove back. Different pharmacist at the counter. Me: Wrong medication. This is for Robert Chen. Her: Let me check. She scanned it. Her: System says Robert Chen picked this up twenty minutes ago. Me: I picked it up. I'm David Park. Her: Did you show ID? Me: Nobody asked for ID. She called the guy who'd helped me over. He looked panicked. Him: I definitely checked ID. Me: You asked my name and handed me a bag. Him: (pause) Oh no. Turned out Robert Chen picked up my medication at the same time. Same confusion. Nobody checked anything properly. Her: I'll call Mr. Chen. She called him on speaker. Robert: Hello? Her: Did you pick up your prescription today? Robert: Yes, why? Her: Can you check the name on the bottle? Robert: (pause) This says David Park. Her: You're Robert Chen? Robert: Yes. Her: And David Park is here with your medication. Robert: (laughed) How did this happen? Her: We're very sorry. Can you come back? Robert: I'm forty minutes away. Can David just bring it to me and we swap? She looked uncomfortable but agreed. Drove to his house. He opened the door holding my medication and a coffee mug. Robert: This is ridiculous. Me: Completely. We swapped bags. He invited me in for coffee. Seemed rude to refuse. Talked for an hour. He told me about his daughter in Portland. I told him about my job. Robert: Want my number in case they mess up again? Me: You think they will? Robert: That guy seemed very flustered. He texted me two weeks later asking if I wanted to meet at the pharmacy to double-check our prescriptions. We did. Both correct this time. Got coffee after anyway. We've been meeting for coffee every other Thursday for three months now. My girlfriend thinks it's weird I'm friends with a seventy-year-old I met through a pharmacy error. But Robert gives better advice than most of my actual friends. Plus we both switched to CVS. Just in case.

My wife and I own Forest Park Pharmacy, and we don't accept insurance. None of it. That decision is exactly why we could fix what happened to a patient today. A family came in wanting to transfer their kid's antibiotic to us. The child had already STARTED the course. Then, mid-treatment, the insurance company decided the last 14 tablets suddenly needed a "prior authorization" before the other pharmacy could hand them over. A sick kid, halfway through an antibiotic, and the answer was "please hold." The drug is linezolid. It's a generic. It's been generic for over a decade. It treats serious gram-positive infections — the kind you do NOT want to stop antibiotics in the middle of, because an interrupted course is how you breed resistant bugs and end up right back where you started. So why the hold-up on a cheap, common generic? Follow the fake math. Insurance and the PBMs behind them price drugs off a number called AWP — "Average Wholesale Price." People in my industry have another name for it: "Ain't What's Paid." It's a benchmark number, not a real-world cost. On paper, the AWP for just those last 14 tablets is about $2,500. My cash price for the same 14 tablets? $18. Read that again. The system that's supposedly "protecting" this family from cost is the same system that inflated an $18 medication into a $2,500 line item, then slapped a prior auth on it to "review the expense" THEY invented. They manufactured the problem, then billed everyone for the privilege of solving it — and made a sick kid wait while they did it. This is the whole game. When a drug is priced honestly, there's nothing to "manage." When it's priced off a fantasy benchmark, you get spread pricing, PA paperwork, pharmacy phone trees, and delayed treatment — all dressed up as cost control. Here's the part nobody tells you: roughly 90% of prescriptions are low-cost generics. For the vast majority of what people pick up every day, running it through insurance does two things — raises the real cost and risks delaying your care. That's it. That's the value-add. That's why we fired the insurance companies. No middleman deciding your kid can't finish their antibiotics on schedule. No fake prices. Just the real number, on the shelf, today. The medication was always cheap. The insurance was the expensive part.

Imagine being forced to give someone 6.2% of your paycheck, every single check, every month, for 30 to 50 years of your life. And that person said, "Don't worry, I'm holding this for you and will pay it back to you on a monthly basis, when you retire at 65." And then they said, "Nah, just kidding. I meant when you retire at 67. And at that time, I'll only give you 70% of what you paid me." And then they said, "Oops, I spent all your money. You're out of luck." That's the U.S. government.
