Marvel originally stole Samuel L. Jackson’s likeness for Nick Fury, The actor could have sued Marvel for millions of dollars, but instead, he pulled off a genius deal. In 2002, Marvel artists were updating Nick Fury's look and, without asking, drew him to look exactly like Jackson. They even added a joke in the comic: In The Ultimates 4th edition, the team discusses who would play them in a movie, and Nick Fury explicitly answers, "Why, Mister Samuel L. Jackson, of course. That's not even open to debate, Doctor Pym." Jackson, an avid comic-book reader, randomly walked into a comic book store in Los Angeles and saw his own face on the cover. His representatives contacted Marvel over the unauthorized use of his likeness. Rather than pursuing a lawsuit, Jackson used the situation to his advantage. Marvel apologized and promised that whenever Nick Fury was adapted into live-action cinema, Jackson would be offered first right of refusal for the role. Just a few years later, Jackson appeared as Nick Fury in the post-credit scene of Iron Man (2008). Ultimately, he not only got the role, but also secured a multi-film deal to play Nick Fury in the MCU.
