Its naturally understandable for people think that way because of her overbearing nature stemming from loss trauma, most people dont really understand that peple naturally inherit certain behaviors (like avoidance, overprotectiveness, etc) from losing those around them. she wasn't just yelling at Yuta in that one panel for nothing, it was because he did such a reckless thing and she is naturally scared of losing him bc shes around constant loss all the time. 😭 For a lot of people overprotectiveness comes off as harsh, but it is still definitely love and not meant to agitate him whatseover, sure it is tough love, but she is quite the opposite of cold or loveless because she doesn't really know how to exhibit love than to be caring in an domineering way.

I think Tarantino is almost the perfect example of this tension because he exists at the intersection of historical fiction, entertainment, and mainstream cultural influence. Inglourious Basterds is not a film that promotes a harmful viewpoint, and I don't think the issue is that Tarantino is "wrong" for creating an alternate history. The interesting part is that he is one of the most recognizable and influential filmmakers in modern cinema, so his work reaches people who may not approach it with the same context that a more experienced film viewer would. + It just naturally has reach as well. Tarantino is almost the embodiment of Hollywood entertainment: he is known for his style, his use of violence, his dialogue, and his ability to make highly accessible films. Because of that, it is not surprising that Inglourious Basterds has reached a massive audience. But that also means there will inevitably be viewers who come to the film without much prior knowledge of World War II or without a strong understanding of historical fiction. Imagine someone younger, or someone from a place where they have not had much exposure to World War II history, watching Inglourious Basterds because they are interested in getting into film, and they are watching one of the most famous directors in cinema. I would not automatically expect that person to recognize every historical divergence, especially because the film uses so many realistic elements: real countries, real political figures, real events, uniforms, languages, and the atmosphere of a historical drama. The point is not that audiences are incapable of understanding fiction, or that filmmakers need to explain every artistic choice or change things to symbolize history rather than directly reference it. It is that when a work uses the framework and imagery of real history, there is always a possibility that some viewers will interpret parts of it through the lens of reality. That is different from a film like Angel's Egg, where ambiguity creates questions about meaning, symbolism, and an inward experience. In historical fiction, ambiguity can also create uncertainty about what actually happened, and those are two very different forms of ambiguity.

Kant's Categorical Imperative is fascinating through the lens of film. If we apply Kant's maxim "Act only according to that maxim whereby you can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law." In the nature of cinema, what happens if every director treats historical atrocities as completely malleable clay without signaling their fictionalized nature? The danger isn't necessarily for the cinephile watching Inglourious Basterds who knows Hitler didn't die in a French cinema. The danger is the slow erosion of collective memory (and influencing unfamiliar people [youth, unfamiliar people from places with no internet or prior knowledge on WW2 watching a film, etc]) When films like The Boy in the Striped Pajamas create a fictionalized and historically inaccurate depiction of a concentration camp under the guise of a realistic drama, it creates a "shadow world" of history. For audiences without historical context, that shadow world replaces the real one. This is a completely different dilemma than Angel's Egg and Stalker, one that I would argue is more important.
