That's an odd argument to make, Mehdi. If the principle is that modern populations should permanently surrender the right to shape their own country's immigration policy because their ancestors built an empire, then the same standard would have to apply across much of the world. The Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid, Ottoman, Seljuk, Ghaznavid, Ghurid, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal, Almoravid, Almohad, Ayyubid and Sokoto empires all expanded through military conquest, annexation and colonisation. The Mongols under the Khans built the largest contiguous land empire in history. Almost every major civilisation has expanded at someone else's expense. History is full of conquest; it isn't unique to Britain or Europe. The real question in 2026 is not what happened centuries ago, but whether a democratic nation has the right to decide who may settle within its borders. Believing Britain should remain predominantly British, with immigration controlled in the interests of social cohesion, housing, wages and public services, is a political position. You may disagree with it, but dismissing every concern as "racism" while appealing to events from hundreds of years ago isn't an argument.

A migrant boat in French waters is classed as a boat in distress under International Maritime Law. This is because these boats are not sea worthy and are usually overloaded. If the Royal Navy were to spot a migrant boat in distress in French waters they would be obliged under said maritime law to return the boat to the nearest place of safety, which would be a port in France. This would be perfectly legal for the Royal Navy to do as they would technically be saving migrant lives. It would be illegal for the French to stop the Navy from doing this.

First impressions from Ceuta. This footage was filmed yesterday, 31st July 2026, on the beach beside the southern border with Morocco. We parked in a relatively safe car park and walked down to the shoreline to get an unfiltered first look at what was happening on the ground. The man caught was then released like all the others I saw Today I’ll be back out, hoping to speak to people directly. The language barrier makes interviews challenging, but I’ll do my best. Thank you to everyone who suggested questions—I genuinely appreciate the ideas. One thing that still feels surreal: seeing soldiers with mounted machine guns on armoured Hummer-style vehicles. I don’t think that will ever feel normal. – Adrian
