In Greta Gerwig’s Narnia, Jadis uses magic to shatter the Eagle & Child. This is the real Oxford pub where Lewis, Tolkien, and the Inklings actually met and where the Narnia books were shaped. There is no narrative reason for it to appear. Its inclusion isn’t an accident, but a deliberate choice. In an adaptation already altering the source’s theology and metaphysics, the destruction of the physical site where those ideas were forged functions as a symbolic act: the origin point of the story is targeted and erased by the very antagonist the books exist to defeat. That is the definition of desecration, not homage.
No, I think most of the criticism about Keller is not because he was a-political, but because he was actually quite political. Keller not only spoke about politics, he spoke about specific politicians. Frequently. So much so, he was part of a secret meeting of evangelical leaders that were assembled to decide what they were going to do about the problem of evangelical support for Donald Trump. He also created a political taxonomy of which Christians he thought would be helpful in bringing about Christian renewal in the United States. He specifically placed Trump supporters outside the spectrum of those who would be useful partners. That was a very political assessment. That is not what someone does just because they want to keep everyone’s focus on the gospel.
Once you see that most of the attacks on Tim Keller are about keeping people away from the gospel and, instead, focused on worldly politics, you can’t really unsee it. Go scroll Tim’s old Twitter account and compare the number of tweets about the gospel to those of his critics.
Keller was the most political pastor of the moden era. The utter naïveté of people like Erick speaks to his skill, not his purity.

“Age is no exception” is a crystalline example of the not-getting-it the bois are great at. In one sense true. In another AND MORE IMPORTANT sense if you try to guilt your g-ma for not lifting, or if you spend your twilight years trying to ‘stay dangerous’ - you’re failing life.
Wisdom is not solely displayed in gray hair, nor strength in muscle. The composition of either may be of little substance. These are not mutually exclusive. Applying all of Christ to all of life means maturing dominion over spirit, mind AND body. Age is no exception to this.

I had a respectful and honest conversation with an older man several months ago where I told him “respectfully, I don’t trust you…” He said I was required to trust him. I said “no sir, that must be earned” Getting men to trust you is different. It takes a lot of work. It requires continuously demonstrating competence. The fruit of your competence is often on display for younger men to see. How does his wife carry herself? What about his kids? Has he had a real effect on the world? Can he lead people to accomplish the next objective? What’s his max bench? 🤣😇 I think a lot of you men are disrespectfully saying they don’t trust older men. I think a lot of older men are demanding that we trust them when they haven’t earned it. How does this get fixed? Submission to Christ as the perfect man and by daily sewing the fruits of righteousness in our own lives and in those under our authority.
And if you want to see infancy, the comments are somehow predicable and astounding. In a magnificent display of point-missing, they dissect the argument like some Harrelson-esque biologist analyzing a bumble bee, and explaining why you are stupid to think such a thing could fly.

Actually no. While I’d bet Lewis would have had a philosophical and moral field day with the rock’n’roll age, he did not hate new things or new forms. He HATED the creeping post-modernism that etiolated the meaning, value, and goodness. That’s why he would have hated this movie.

This is awful and I hate it. Namely because Gerwig took all the fear out of it. What does that mean? Originally, Uncle Andrew TRICKED the children into touching the rings. He was a coward who wouldn’t use the rings himself because he didn’t know exactly what would happen. So he sent a Guinea Pig and Polly through first. Diggory, DESPITE his fear chose to go and rescue Polly. The ENTIRE THEME of the book is being TERRIFIED but doing the thing anyway. • Terrified to use the rings • Terrified of new worlds • Terrified your mom is going to die and that Aslan won’t help you save her Gerwig has erased the heroism from The Magicians Nephew.
