Just integrated Shopify with @SphinxMind. You need to read this if you’re considering building on top of Shopify. This is my first time building something on Shopify. I always thought things would be straightforward, given the large dev community behind it. However, it turns out Shopify is another monopoly. You must use the Shopify Billing API to charge users, regardless of whether your app is listed or unlisted in their store. This means you need to pay 20% on each transaction. But why should I pay if my app is unlisted and I am not getting any installs from your store? This is overkill for us, as Shopify isn’t our core business. It's just one integration out of many, and it’s not proven that a lot of people will adopt it yet. The workaround for us was custom distribution where users create the app themselves and share the access token. It's not the best we aimed for, but it works. On top of that, Shopify doesn’t offer their Reporting API to regular stores, only to Plus stores, which are the minority. The alternative is to pull raw data and do every single calculation from scratch. For example, to calculate total sales, you'll need to pull every single order and then sum up the price for each. You can imagine how it would work for the 35+ fields we had to calculate. This process may make sense if your core business is a Shopify app. However, for us, if it's just another integration, it makes no sense for it to be so complex. Today, I’m excited to roll out a new feature on @SphinxMind : Multi-Account chatting. With this new feature, users can now aggregate data for multiple accounts or break it down by individual accounts. It’s definitely a must for agencies and businesses managing multiple accounts. Implementing this feature was challenging, especially when ensuring it was scalable. In previous projects, I rarely had to worry about querying calculated fields or ratios from marketing platforms, like average session duration or impression share. My approach was straightforward: query the dependent fields and handle the transformations at the end, using SQL or even simply in Excel. There were 2 approaches to go about this feature: 1- Let the AI handle the aggregation, which would mean training the model on the calculation logic for each field. However, this didn’t seem scalable due to the token size limitations of LLM models. 2- The second approach was to add an aggregation layer across all data sources, which meant updating the schema for every field to include calculation logic. This is the path I went down. The second approach was our go-to, as it gives us complete control and ensures the accuracy of the data. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts!
