Typical......stamps arranged in a perfect line, then a postmark carpet-bombing to mess it all up. And while I'm in whinge mode, these stamps always irk me a little due to the different designs.....why couldn't they have made them all match? And relax.

1972 Royal Mail "Village Churches" First Day Cover, with a lovely clean Earl's Barton Counter Date Stamp. One of my favourite 1970s FDI's as firstly they are superb stamps, and secondly there are so many fairly hard to find variants of covers and postmarks to keep it interesting.

Prince of Wales Investiture 1969. Definitely not the most eye-catching of First Day Covers, but as it's the only copy of this handstamp I have ever managed to find it's pretty special to me.

There's something magical about these early international flight covers, both in the design and the sense of adventure and discovery - a time when the far flung corners of the globe were starting to become accessible for the first time. Just beautiful.

The worlds oldest Post Office, Sanquhar in Dumfrieshire opened it's doors for the first time back in 1712, and is still operational more than 300 years later (though for how much longer is debateable). Counter Date Stamp shown here on the UKs first Christmas FDI's from 1966.

In May 1897 Guiglielmo Marconi conducted the worlds first open water radiotelegraph transmission across the 3 miles between Lavernock Point and Flatholm Island in South Wales. Celebrated here on a 75th Anniversary BBC & Marconi "Barry College" First Day Cover. @MarconiSociety

@BarbadosStamps @GeoffChilds1066 These are actually quite common as letters were transferred between the various light railways in Wales - you'll notice the attached cover has a cachet noting the transfer to the Talyllyn Railway. Always interesting to see though.
