@chesed1973 I think many Christians have a deep misunderstanding of Paul's expressions like "works of the law" and "under the law". It has led to almost a fear of obeying God lest we be trying to earn salvation. When in reality, Paul was arguing against Gentiles becoming Jewish.

The Fourteenth Amendment wasn’t written to be a floor mat to mass illegal migration. The Supreme Court got this one wrong. And Congress shouldn’t hide behind the courts. It should clarify the law and restore the original purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment. I should know, family lived the history that produced this amendment.

@chesed1973 @5SolasMissy Good on you for giving her the benefit of the doubt. What puzzles me is that some people can't conceive that both faith and obedience might be required. So if someone advocates for obedience, it's assumed that we advocate obedience ONLY. It's such an odd strawman.

@5SolasMissy Do we really speak as though obedience is enough on its own? Or do we speak as though obedience is necessary but not sufficient? If we point out Jesus's warning that workers of lawlessness will not inherit the kingdom, does it follow that we think obedience alone is enough?

@Matthew56193629 Are you ok, bro? You admit openly that the Sinai Cov doesn't promise eternal life, but then you act as though it WAS its purpose to provide eternal life, and paint it as ineffective. Figure out its actual purpose, and then maybe you won't denigrate God's Covenant that He made.

@Matthew56193629 You're not listening. I never said I prefer the Sinai Cov over the New. I'm saying that the Sinai Cov remains until heaven and earth pass away. The Tanakh simply does not allow for it to pass away before then. If you think that's bad, then you don't understand the Sinai Cov.

@Matthew56193629 A newer covenant doesn't "replace" an older one (see Gal 3:17). They build on one another. The Mosaic Covenant pertains to This World of concealment and mortality, and it will remain until that last enemy (death and mortality) is utterly defeated.

@Matthew56193629 6/ If you know what you're looking for, you can see Hebrews referring to the World to Come again and again. The author connects This World to the Sinai Cov, getting ready to pass away (but not yet gone!). The New Cov, like the World to Come, will never pass away. /end

@Matthew56193629 5/ But we know that this heaven and earth will pass away one day, right? The NT reflects Jewish eschatology, which distinguishes between This World (this heaven & earth) vs. the World to Come (the new heaven & earth). The author establishes early that this is his topic.

@Matthew56193629 You were using this verse to say that the Mosaic Covenant is annulled. I'm pointing out this isn't the Mosaic Covenant b/c it's made with "all the peoples", not with Israel. Zech 12 repeatedly refers to enemies of Israel as "all the peoples". See what I'm saying?
