Violent crime is falling dramatically across the country. Yet a new report shows that Minneapolis was just one of four cities where the homicide rate is presently higher than it was in 2019. The county attorney's office has to lead this fight. That means bringing police, elected officials, and community partners around one shared plan of action. It means sending a clear message that violence carries consequences here. And it means setting public goals you can hold me to. On day one, I'll get to work.
What I think the conversation about small businesses and cities often misses is just how much more expensive everything is compared to 2019. Which means that policies of 2015-2019 that businesses didn’t like but could stomach will now put them out of business.

how does sending thousands of ICE agents to Minneapolis because of fraud help when ICE agents don’t investigate fraud in state programs & a half dozen top federal prosecutors who’ve been putting people away for fraud for years just quit in disgust. If you wanted to address fraud, you’d hire more investigators and prosecutors, not ICE agents with as few as 47 days of training. Now we’re in an even worse position to address fraud. The lead prosecutor for still-pending actual fraud cases is now gone, along with others.
Joe Thompson led investigations into fraud, the assassination of Melissa and Mark Hortman, and the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting. I worked to help make Joe acting U.S. Attorney during a critical time. This is a loss for our state and for public safety.
