End-user wired and wireless connections will have been disrupted. Data centre services are not presently affected. Faults are with Scottish Power supply, and unclear if there will be a further recurrence. /ends, for now.
Two major supply faults to all parts of the campus this afternoon, affecting network services in most buildings. It takes time for network equipment to recover, and it may result in hardware failure. We will monitor this evening and rectify as needed through tomorrow. 1/..

And after a few short years, 3Com decided they didn’t care about the enterprise market and dumped all their UK academia customers, something my current Aruba account manager lived through and I never let him forget … but the Foundry story is for another time.
I still have nightmares of the awful X application we had to use to modify the Wellfleet acls. I even still have the .alias file with this entry to run the stupid thing.
Here’s another one from the archives. I’ve seen a few copies of this. The FDDI ring architecture from the early 90s. IP addressing for some parts of the campus even now has echoes of this era.

After so many months of wandering around it empty, it’s really weird to see Learning & Teaching complex jumping with students and COY16 COP26 related activities - packed!
On campus for a bit today. Jumping with students everywhere. It’s very odd after so long. Got a few people directed to the correct building. Wireless setup tickets flooding in 🥳
Pleased to see the college Market shop was back open again for cake time.
Around on campus a couple of days last week. A lot more activity. Spent a lot of time in the new @StrathUnion assisting colleagues with the extensive AV, the CCTV, and the radio studio installation.
@bruce_rodger I met the ducks today. They didn’t have a lot to say. Or anything to say, in fact. Gave me a Hard Stare. Bit if a quackitude problem if you ask me.
Hopefully there won’t be a mad rush of network faults when staff start returning to their offices, although I think the biggest issues likely to come from the PCs that have sat for more than a year turned off ...
Currently planning for summer upgrades; replacement routers and/or required for SIPBS complex, Lord Hope and Thomas Graham; data centre works; software upgrades on supporting systems and other such.
At least one member of the network team has been on campus almost every day since after first lockdown: fixing, upgrading, investigating, preparing, etc; primarily supporting our @StrathEstates and Learning Services colleagues.
@NovaScottSQH @UniStrathclyde @StrathEDU The lovely receptionist at #TIC helped me the other day with a new face covering too, after I had a “face covering malfunction”.
