Every day I see numerous posts about people’s pets passing away and how painful it is. I “like” each post because I feel each pet deserves it. Today it’s my turn. After 4-1/2 years our adopted rescue dog Nicodemus von Scruffington passed today. It was the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make but we know he’s now pain free and running happily. He was the sweetest, kindest boy. My posts never get many views but if you could look at the pics of our sweet guy I’d really appreciate it.

A stray dog kept showing up at my daughter’s bus stop. He was mangy, ribs showing, looked scary. I kept chasing him away, telling my daughter, 'Don't touch him, he might bite.' One rainy morning, I watched from the window. My daughter was standing alone at the stop. A car that didn't belong in our neighborhood slowed down. A man rolled down the window and started talking to her. The 'scary' stray dog stood up. He walked right between my daughter and the car door. He lowered his head, hacked his hackles up, and let out a guttural growl that shook the pavement. The man rolled up his window and sped off. The dog immediately stopped growling, looked at my daughter, and wagged his tail. I opened my front door. 'Come here, boy,' I called. He’s been sleeping at the foot of her bed for six years. I judged him by his coat; he judged the stranger by his intent. Sometimes the best security system runs on kibble and loyalty.
