The existing left turn to South Road and straight ahead movement to West Thebarton Road will remain open and unchanged.
📍 Ashwin Parade Intersection To help improve traffic flow during the construction of the T2D Project, both lanes on Ashwin Parade can now turn left onto South Road.
In an Australian first, two additional Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) purpose-built to excavate cross passages will join the Project. Standing 4.1 metres tall, the fourth and fifth TBMs will construct cross passages every 120 metres, connecting the parallel tunnels. #T2DProject
And the first of two cross passage TBMs has arrived in Adelaide. 🚢 Located every 120 metres, cross passages are a mandatory safety feature which will provide evacuation routes between the parallel tunnels in the unlikely event of an emergency.
💡Did you know? The T2D Project is the first Australian tunnelling project to use two purpose-built Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to excavate cross passages. Standing at 4.1 metres tall, these are scaled-down versions of our three big TBMs - Mary, Catherine and Elizabeth.

Tunnelling is officially underway 🚀 A major milestone has been reached on the T2D Project, with Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Mary beginning excavation of the first 4.5-kilometre Southern Tunnel between the Southern Precinct at Clovelly Park and Glandore.

Each TBM is around 100 metres long and 15 metres in diameter, which is about the height of the Thebarton Theatre or the goal posts at Adelaide Oval. #T2DProject #NonStopSouthRoad
Did you know the T2D Project will be the first road infrastructure project in Australia to run three large-scale Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) simultaneously?
The TBMs were named after prominent South Australian suffragists - Mary Lee, Catherine Helen Spence and Elizabeth Webb Nicholls. The names were chosen following an overwhelming response from the community, with more than 2,000 submissions received.

Our three Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) have been named in honour of three pioneering South Australian suffragists whose voices led the campaign that saw South Australia become the first place in the world to allow women to both vote and stand for election.
With the cutterhead now in place, the remaining TBM components will be assembled, before final testing and commissioning ahead of tunnelling beginning in the second half of 2026. #T2DProject #NonStopSouthRoad
The third and final Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cutterhead has been lowered into the launch box at the T2D Project’s Central North Precinct in Hilton. The cutterhead was lifted and lowered by a 500-tonne gantry crane.
