He had Steven Gerrard idolisation for the rest of his life in the palm of his hands. VVD captaincy successor and increasingly growing to have an aura of owning how Liverpool play (the PSG 2nd leg before injury was a great example). But he chucked it away for Beckham style glitz and glam (without being a national team hero). Now he’s getting benched for Denzel Dumfries.
🚨 Trent Alexander-Arnold: "Did the hate from Liverpool fans hurt? It hurts because of how much I’ve put into the club over the course of 20 years and the sacrifices I made during that period.
Of course it hurts, but I understand the disappointment." @DailyMirror
1.4.3.3. with a back line of Araujo – Jacquet – Virgil – Kerkez. At St James’ Park, matches often resemble basketball games, and it’s easy to get carried away by the unstable emotions of the stadium. Given Iraola’s nature, that is highly likely, which is why I’d like to use a hybrid RB who, in the attacking phase, would tuck inside and narrow his position, while Jacquet would be given the freedom to step up higher after we lose possession. This would give us an extra layer of protection against Newcastle’s quick transitions and fast attacks, while also buying the team some time to recover its shape. His higher positioning would serve a similar purpose to the role of a No. 6 - in general, I believe he could play there in many situations.
What’s more, we don’t yet know how mentally stable the team has become when falling behind, because last season we often completely fell apart in those moments. So, at the start of the season, I’d rather try to avoid putting ourselves in those situations, rather than adding more problems to the already long list of things Iraola has to rebuild and establish in order for the boys to function as one cohesive unit.
It may be a somewhat naïve approach, especially knowing Andoni, but it could also be the first sign of an internal change in him - showing a touch of pragmatism and an ability to adapt quickly depending on the opponent #LFC
Even if they wanted to rely on quick balls in behind the defensive line, not starting Šeško completely undermined that approach from the outset. They also put in a lot of crosses, so I really didn’t understand how the personnel selection was supposed to fit the game plan - especially when the idea itself was flawed to begin with. Still, they could at least have maximised its chances of working by starting the Slovenian from the first minute.
On a side note, brilliant analysis. You always manage to articulate your thoughts so clearly and convey exactly what you mean. I genuinely envy that
The way someone conveys or defines something can be a cancer to proper perception, and that is not a description of a person but of their point of view. Calling someone “tępym”, on the other hand, fits within the structure of adjectives — descriptions that insult another person. This portal amazes me. Such simple logical processes have to be explained here logically so that the other side “MIGHT” understand them
I think this is why Iraola might use small micro-groups. They give players a way of reacting to the opponent collectively, rather than everyone having to constantly adjust on their own. If, for example, a group of three reacts to a trigger and changes its relationships, it’s probably easier for the rest of the team to adapt to that change than for every player to independently recalibrate themselves.
In that sense, the micro-group becomes a way of coordinating timing. The trigger sets the group in motion, the group adapts, and the rest of the team reacts to that change. So the temporal model can work without every player having to be synchronised individually with everyone else
That’s why you send this to someone who is looking at players across a broader range of metrics, so they can make their own pick lol.
But I’ve noticed that your metrics are often tailored in a way that promotes Arsenal players. All that propaganda throughout the season about Eze and Gyökeres is aging particularly well now. I’ll spare myself the level of discussion you’re offering and refrain from using insulting language, because that’s simply not how I choose to communicate with another person.
Have a good day
Bayern continue to use small-side overloads and third-man combinations to bypass the opposition's man-man pressure. By utilising the goalkeeper, Bayern create a 2v1 against Dortmund's striker (Guirassy), who tries to press them both (image 1). As Guirassy shifts from the Bayern center-back to press Neuer, Min-jae becomes free and can be accessed through a third-man combination, and can pass it to the left-back (image2).
An interesting detail to notice in image 2 is, despite the 4v4 match-up, Bayern have a qualitative superiority here. And that's because Dortmund's players are shifting marking responsibilities. Thus, there is enough time for the on-ball Bayern players to find their teammate, who has enough separation against their new marker to receive in space.
*Side note: in image 1, you might think that there is an additional Dortmund player to make it even. However, that player (who is purposely unmarked) actually does not proceed to participate in the press since he drops deeper to mark the Bayern left winger.
Bayern's game against Stuttgart yesterday was quite similar to their ties against Atalanta and PSG. With Stuttgart defending man-man in high press phases, we saw Bayern's fluidity in possession. One of the many movements that we saw included Kane dropping very deep while the
And honestly, the best conclusions and opinions, without the influence of emotions or the surrounding environment, always come when you watch a match for the second time. I don’t know why, but I always feel like I see more and understand things better when I rewatch the same match a day or two after it was played
@mschase1972 Agreed, but I think the club has long assessed the level of succession and they are convinced, I won't hide that I've felt the same for about a year now
#Minteh carries the ball with his head up, constantly scanning his surroundings, which improves his awareness and the speed of his decision-making. This allows him to quickly recognise what is happening around him and activate new communication processes, all stemming from his first instinct: to play forward, to attack. His personality is therefore ideally suited to Iraola.
His neuromotor abilities are elite, without a doubt. His reaction to stimuli is exceptionally quick - the brain sends a signal and the body responds almost instantly, creating tiny advantages that can make the difference in one-on-one duels. His nature is highly reactive, both in defence and attack, but thanks to the quality and speed of his neural communication - from head to body - this becomes a major strength.
His work rate across the entire length of the pitch is extreme, and this is one of the qualities Iraola prioritises in his wingers. He does not dwell on failed actions; as if flipping a switch, he instantly transitions into the defensive phase, immediately shifting his focus to winning the ball back #LFC
