France's decision to enforce a hijab ban for its athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympics is deeply concerning. As 2016 U.S. Olympic fencing medalist @IbtihajMuhammad highlighted, debates around Muslim head coverings in sports are rooted in racism and Islamophobia. This policy not only infringes on religious freedoms but also perpetuates discrimination. As the 2024 Olympics gets underway in France, by refusing to lift its Hijab (Headscarf) ban, France has proven its secular fundamentalist identity & its deep seated Islamophobic political ideology. A woman’s hijab is her choice, not France’s. France should be ashamed of itself!
