@timabrahams The design issue with the Botley Road Bridge is that they did put some thought into it, but that what ended up being built was a barely ornamented balustrade that planning documents claimed was "gothic" and "sympathetic to" Oxford. x.com/TeatherEdward/…

Going even more modern is the new cafe at Carlisle Cathedral, built 2020 and designed by architect Feilden Fowles. The materials and shapes clearly echo the cathedral, but the appearance is modern. If the Botley Road Bridge had looked like this I wouldn’t be complaining.
Mappa Mundi Building, Hereford Cathedral, built 1997 to a design by Elbourn Architects. This is both evidently within the gothic revival/Tudorbethan tradition but also clearly modern, and it fits very nicely into the older buildings of the cathedral.
What's depressing about the Botley Road Bridge is that thought was put into the design, but it still looks ugly. Planning docs claim the "gothic themed shape" along the side of the bridge is "inspired" by and "sympathetic to" Oxford's character. They could have done this:
Cars and buses go from Oxford Station down Botley Road for the first time in three years! The project took longer than the construction of The Titanic and saw costs balloon to £237m. Looks good though.

It’s often forgotten these days, but as this image from Newsnight in 1987 shows, the London Docklands Development Corporation was actually a massive robot that stood astride the Thames and demanded supplication in the form of skyscrapers and really small autonomous railways.

The final two liberties left are the Inner and Middle Temples, and their authority was confirmed in 1971 There have been several changes to local government since then, and they have lost some powers, but these tiny pockets of lawyers still remain (technically) London boroughs.
London's smallest borough isn't Kensington & Chelsea or even the City. Tucked away off the Strand are the Temples - medieval liberties of the Knights Templar, and since 1971 de jure London Boroughs.
