@Sd_Anii @NayamiArt Refs are an amazing tool! It just drives me nuts when people act like there's only one way to make good art and neglect that different people have different processes and preferences, y'know?

@HarryHornbill Honestly, all you can do is share your experience working with them and choose not to work with them again. You could ask for corrections or a refund but there's really no obligation to give you either if they delivered the final result.

@MitchLeeuwe Is it some unwritten law you have to trash other people's styles to teach your own preferences?

@NayamiArt Gun to my head I'd say the left but that's because I personally stiffen up and don't styalize as well with a reference in front of me. Which usually causes things to be stiff and awkward like on the left.

@NayamiArt Everyone saying the right one because it "looks better" is so brainwashed by the idea that "reference makes better art" its hilarious. Honestly I couldn't say. Everyone's process is so different and some people stiffen up when using reference while others are more confident.

It still amazes me that the lesson people learned from AI being able to replicate raw art skill wasn't, "Oh wow I guess making a proficient image is kind of artistically useless if a machine can do it" it was DOUBLING DOWN on the fundamentals as if we can outskill the machines...

"Know the rules before you break them" is useless annoying meme advice. It's something EVERYONE repeats without understanding what it means and NEVER offer any concrete advice to follow it up that indicates they know what they're talking about.

But if I'm making an objective assessment the person who said this is still firmly in "amateur desperately trying to copy people more skilled than them" territory.

Maybe doing some anatomy studies would shut these losers up but I like having FUN and they can eat glass. I have nothing to prove to people like this anymore. These despicable art cops.

Realists and art fundamentalists are some of the most obnoxious people on the planet. I will take confident artists with no idea what they are doing over these people any day of the week. Joyless know-it-alls.

@LikelyToRot07 @Patreonexclusi1 @Lannosss @LumiCanvass There's nothing wrong with this concept in a vacuum it's the CONTEXT you see, the CONTEXT. For example... What's being replied to is not "ignore all the rules" it's... "It's okay to break the rules because it's a cartoon". Something a LOT of fundemental simps seem to forget.
