If we teach algebra because "you'll need it someday," why don't we teach compound interest, budgeting, or how credit cards work? Those are decisions you'll make within months of graduating.

I'm a CPA with 20+ years of experience in finance and graduated from one of NY's best business schools. When I was 25, I was living paycheck to paycheck with maxed out credit cards and horrible credit. Personal finance education was not part of the curriculum. I am not the only one. This is a systemic gap, even today.

Facts. We need more supply coupled with government subsidies to purchase or build the homes. Thinking everyone under the age of 40 with good credit history and source of income should qualify for a low interest rate mortgage. We need solutions for both sides of the equation to fix this issue. No other way around it.

This is what happens when we don’t teach the basics of personal finance in schools. Most people today don’t understand how these BNPL schemes are destroying their financial lives.

@VladTheInflator Another failure of our education system. In this case, we didn't teach how interest rates are set along with every other personal finance topic in existence.

@MINHxDYNASTY Great post. One of those skills to learn outside of the school system is financial literacy. Schools don't teach it and the outcome is a disaster for most our young people.

@HustleBitch_ Yet we STILL don't teach financial literacy in schools. This is precisely the reason why. Doesn't take much to see who benefits from the financial ignorance. This should be shown to every high school senior, but it won't.

@VladTheInflator Stolen? They are also the generation that budgeted, saved and invested. They didn't have the luxuries that we are currently living with today.

@catturd2 It'll also be good to equip our high schoolers with the basics of personal finances so they can make informed decisions when they enter college. Most of our kids are signing up for decades long debt at 18. What do you know about that sort of commitment as a young adult?

@rowdyamerican69 @WallStreetApes Agree completely. This is the way the system perpetuates the wealth divide. The poor are dumbed down consumers and the rich are asset accumulators. Rinse and repeat into the next generation.
