True politeness consists in being easy one's self and in making every one about as easy as one can whilst keeping one's trousers on.
A little bad taste is like a nice dash of paprika. A little spice is nice, but too much ruins the whole dish and the following courses.
Clothes and manners do not make the man.But, when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance. Take note tatterdemalions.
You can't have two sets of manners - one for those you want to impress, another for those whom you consider unimportant. One set for all.
Many who would not take the last After Eight would take the last lifeboat.
The devil is and always has been a gentleman. So feel in very good company should your behaviour attract the brickbats of the uncooth.
There are so many ways in which it is possible to commit a social sin that reading an etiquette book is a sure way to become a shut in.
A warning - those who have mastered etiquette, who are entirely impeccably right, would seem to arrive at a point of exquisite dullness.
