4.4 billion tonnes of cement are produced every year. Concrete (made from cement, water, sand and gravel) is used in virtually every structure on Earth. Producing cement emits CO2 in two ways: 1. Burning fuel to heat kilns to 1,450 degrees C 2. The chemical reaction itself: CaCO3 heated to CaO + CO2 The second source is unavoidable with current chemistry, no matter how clean the energy, the limestone releases CO2 as it decomposes. This chemical reaction accounts for roughly half of cement's total CO2, approximately 4% of all human CO2 emissions. The only long-term solutions are: - Alternative binders that do not use limestone - Carbon capture at cement plants - Reabsorption of CO2 by concrete over time (which does happen, slowly) We cannot decarbonise concrete the way we can decarbonise electricity.

We are not where we want to be, but we are becoming who we need to be. And are certainly far from where we started. Happy Birthday to me! 🎂

Reporter: "After the match agains Egypt, you told us: "God had a plan for me." Do you think he has another plan for you? Messi: "I don't know, honestly, after everything we've been through, we can't ask for more than that." "Just playing another final is an amazing thing. God is great, and he always has something else, but honestly, I can no longer ask God for more." "I am grateful for everything God has given me, whether in my sports career or in my personal life. And as I always say, as for the rest... It will be God's will. God knows."
