@dannykanell If the “lie” is advocating to afford them the same rights as any other college student, I’m ok with that. Time and the free market (assuming they get to participate in a truly free market) will tell as to how the opportunities for financial gain from NIL will play out.

@GottliebShow Why is this a problem? There are plenty of non athlete students on scholarship who receive income from jobs, many of which are tied to their academic specialty. What’s the difference? Does this extend to them? This is alarmist at best.

@EssexAce13 @andyhre @RSherman_25 All these detractors act as if scholarships are just given away like Halloween candy to anyone who shows up. It’s indicative of a players value to that school, albeit capped. They refuse to acknowledge the massive resources allocated by schools in overall recruiting efforts.

@GottliebShow If you’re right, why would people stop watching if players are able to get paid by 3rd parties while still representing the school? Fans of a school will not care in the end and will still fill the stadiums and support their school.

@GottliebShow How is paying taxes on earned income anything new? College athletes will have pay taxes like every other person in America who gets paid. They’re just the only college kids who can’t get paid above their Scholly and COA. Pretty sure this is not a new concept.

@GottliebShow Why are getting a degree and the ability to simultaneously earn money from a skill mutually exclusive? I can go to college, be a scholarship athlete and get paid all at the same time. Doesn’t change the experience or the building of relationships.

@dannykanell That’s a bit of a stretch. How would it really change the Power 5? It’s an arms race right now but players are left out. And they are exploited by the mere fact that they are the only group of students prohibited from leveraging their skill set for financial gain.

@GottliebShow @TonyCapobianco No kid, athlete or not, is taxed on their scholly. Why can’t scholly’s and other, separate, forms of compensation be mutually exclusive? If I get paid for someone using my image, it is subject to being taxed. Many kids in college get paid from jobs and we don’t question that.

@GottliebShow By framing it in the context of “first salary” in the traditional sense, you’re completely overlooking an individual’s right for a period of years to earn what the market would bear at that time simply because they alone are subject to an archaic, cartel-like, model.
