@DTonPirates People keep comparing this to 2012 collapse and it’s not even close. That team was 63-47 and finished the season 16-36. This year basically around .500 all season.

@ElCaminoBilly @DirtDobberMedia Per racing reference they made races at the Rock, Vegas, and Darlington. Best finish 22nd. Final attempt was a DNQ at Spring Talladega. Ironic as the team shut down his Busch team mid season in ‘97 and that’s how he ended up in #29 after Pressley was released.

@DigitalGashouse Throw 2000 in there. Labonte didn’t win. Jeff won 3 races and finished 9th in points with Loomis as crew chief for 1st year. Nadeau won at Atlanta. Jeff won title in ‘01. He quietly turned things around late in ‘00 with 10 top 10s in his final 11 races.

@HocevarFan42 @jeff_gluck This is a really good list. When the Winston Million/No Bull 5 went away it was hard to really distinguish both Dega races. Spring race was a slightly bigger deal due Winston Million. Summer Dega race had importance due to national tv (CBS) coverage when this was pretty rare.

@jeff_gluck Someone was probably saying the same thing about the Daytona 500 in 1959 compared to the Southern 500. It’s fluid. Indy was #2 in prestige in 90s and 00s before the tire fiasco. Bristol shot way up. Daytona 500, Coke 600, Southern 500, Brickyard. Bristol night probably #5.

@DirtyMoMedia @kylepetty My take 1. Daytona 500, 2. Southern 500 and Coke 600 tie, 4. Brickyard 400 (hurt by ‘08 tire fiasco and road course years). 5-7 Bristol night race and both Dega races in terms of prestige. Daytona Summer was hurt by move away from July 4th.

@DirtyMoMedia @kylepetty In the 80s, no one would even talk about Bristol night race as a crown jewel. Then it got a cult following great crowds and crazy finishes. Gordon and Jr talked about how big a Bristol night race win was. It’s fluid. Darlington was hurt when it moved from Labor Day.

@DirtyMoMedia @kylepetty Crown Jewels can change over time. The Talladega Spring Race was made a crown jewel by the Winston Million. In ‘98 No Bull Five came along and moved the “money race” to the Fall. I’d argue Brickyard was #2 in 90s and early 00s.
