We are very grateful to the U.S. Senate and to everyone who supports Ukraine. Adopting the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act certainly helps increase pressure on the aggressor to bring this insane Russian war against our independence and our people to an end. Ukraine appreciates ALL the support the United States is providing to Ukraine – from both parties and the entire American people. And now, when Putin is making his final bet on ballistic missiles to drag out the war, and when we are searching every nook and cranny so hard for Patriot missiles to protect ourselves, every signal in support of defending lives and bringing the war to an end as soon as possible is extremely important. Real, strong American pressure and sanctions against Russia are what will help the most. Diplomacy comes closer with every step of pressure on the aggressor. Thank you to everyone who understands this and advances PEACE through STRENGTH.

As of now, the number one challenge is Russian strikes. The United States knows exactly what we need and that this is not about something abstract. This is about protecting lives. These are real people, individual lives. Air defense support is needed, and that requires political decisions. In Europe too. In the G7 countries too.

On August 5, 2026, police at Leipzig/Halle Airport discovered a drone equipped with an explosive device and a faulty detonator in the immediate vicinity of Ukrainian Antonov cargo planes. Air traffic was temporarily halted. Authorities are classifying the incident as a potential politically motivated attack and have not ruled out Russian involvement. At the same time, it was revealed that Russian intelligence services had plotted an assassination attempt against Stefan Thumann, CEO of the drone manufacturer Donaustahl (a supplier to Ukraine). Two recruited agents had been monitoring him for months; the attack was thwarted just in time. Despite these clear attacks on German soil, Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s response has so far been inconsequential. There have been no tangible countermeasures. He is the wrong Chancellor for wartime—already the second one following the Scholz disaster.

Today, many were shocked by yet another video of the drone “safari” Russians are carrying out against civilians in Kherson. A Russian drone deliberately hunted down a man selling vegetables and detonated right next to him. The Russians even admitted to the crime, showing zero regret and openly boasting about tormenting people. The man was wounded in the blast. Every single day, ordinary people in Kherson face these Russian "safaris." The world must see this. It must see every piece of evidence that Russia has gone mad and that its soldiers take pleasure in killing and abusing civilians. Without pressure on Russia, the dismantling of its capacity for aggression, and real security guarantees, it is simply impossible to imagine the world being able to coexist with this evil. We must remain resolute in defending life. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to seriously think about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones. This is not just about Ukraine. Russia’s campaign against human life must be stopped here in Ukraine before it spreads further. Finland and Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Poland, the countries of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova—all should work together to ensure real security guarantees and bring Russia’s war to an end. Peace is needed, which requires cooperation among everyone in the world who truly values peace. Thank you to everyone standing with Ukraine!

For the better part of the last 20 years I have served in callings where I do ecclesiastical interviews for BYU applicants, and am still doing so today in my current calling. I very directly tell BYU applicants: "You are voluntarily agreeing to live the Honor Code. If you go to BYU, don't complain about it or try to circumvent it. If you aren't fully committed to living the Honor Code, do yourself and everybody else a favor and DON'T GO TO BYU." I don't care if they are athletes, Fulbright scholars, or virtuoso musicians. The message is the same. I am a BYU graduate and will forever be grateful for the environment I experienced there. It was the result of being surrounded by thousands of my peers who almost to a person were striving to keep their covenants and live the Honor Code. Now, none were perfect, but almost all of the people I associated with at BYU were genuinely striving to do and be their best. I loved it! Prospective BYU students who aren't fully committed to living the Honor Code - athlete or otherwise - are almost always better served going somewhere else for their college experience.

Today, the Russians used their ballistic missile to destroy an ordinary house belonging to an ordinary family in Radushne, near Kryvyi Rih, in our Dnipro region. It was the Voronov family: mother Olena, father Artem, seven children – Mark, Dominika, Zakharii, Azarii Ilai, Federica, Emilia, and Viorika – and one-and-a-half-year-old grandson Artem, the child of their eldest son, who is now defending Ukraine. As of now, it has been confirmed that parents and three children – Mark, Azarii Ilai, and Emilia – were killed. The Russian missile struck with such force that almost nothing was left of the house… Fragments of human bodies were found under the rubble, and only forensic examinations can establish which members of the family they belong to. The fate of Zakharii, Dominika, Viorika, Federica, and Artem is still being determined… It is a horrific crime of Russia’s war against Ukraine – against ordinary people, against ordinary life. This Russian evil can only be stopped by the whole world. No one in the world can be left to face such terror alone. And when we say that Ukraine needs missiles for Patriots, when we seek the capabilities to defend ourselves against Russian ballistic missiles, this isn’t about abstractions. We are talking about families like this, people like these, who can live if we have the means to shoot down Russian missiles – if our partners help us with interceptors. Families who can be killed if we have nothing to stop Russian Iskanders with. It is important that these people are seen by those who make decisions – decisions at the Pentagon, in European capitals, and everywhere in the world where there is an opportunity to help Ukraine protect lives. Reality speaks for itself. Protecting lives is necessary. Air defense missiles are necessary. Eternal memory to all Ukrainians who were killed by Russian strikes… Eternal gratitude to everyone who helps!
