#BlackHistoryMonth Moment: Frances Cress Welsing was an American psychiatrist, author, and prominent figure in the field of Afrocentric theory and the study of racism. Born Frances Luella Cress on March 18, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of a physician and a teacher. She attended Antioch College for her undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957, and then Howard University College of Medicine, where she received her M.D. in 1962. Welsing pursued a career in child and general psychiatry. She worked at Howard University as an assistant professor of pediatrics and held various positions in the Washington, D.C., Department of Human Services, including as a staff physician and clinical director for schools catering to emotionally disturbed children. In 1970, while at Howard University, Welsing published her seminal essay, "The Cress Theory of Color-Confrontation and Racism (White Supremacy)." This work posited that racism and white supremacy stem from a fear of genetic annihilation by whites due to their numerical minority status globally. She argued that the lack of melanin in white skin represented a genetic deficiency, which, in her view, led to aggressive behavior towards people of color to maintain dominance. In 1991, Welsing expanded on her theories in her book, "The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors." This collection of essays further explored her views on global white supremacy, the oppression of Black people, and various social issues like drug use, teen pregnancy, and incarceration, attributing these to systemic racism. Welsing's theories were highly controversial and often criticized for being pseudoscientific. Her views on homosexuality among African Americans, for instance, suggesting it was a strategy to reduce the Black population, drew significant criticism. Despite this, she was extremely influential in certain circles, particularly among those interested in Afrocentric thought and hip-hop, like Public Enemy, X-Clan, Brand Nubian and others. Welsing was known for public debates on race and racism, notably her 1974 debate with physicist William Shockley on Tony Brown's Journal on PBS, where she challenged Shockley's views on racial genetics. Dr. Frances Cress Welsing passed away on January 2, 2016, in Washington, D.C., after suffering strokes. Her theories continue to be discussed in contexts related to race, identity, and social justice, though they remain contentious. Her work is often cited in discussions about the psychological impacts of racism and the need for Black empowerment and self-understanding.

Tomato production in Burkina Faso increased from 315,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to 360,000 metric tonnes in 2024. 14. Millet production rose from 907,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to 1.1 million metric tonnes in 2024. 15. Rice production increased from 280,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to 326,000 metric tonnes in 2024. 16. He banned French military operations in Burkina Faso. 17. He banned French media in Burkina Faso. 18. He expelled French troops from Burkina Faso. 19. His government is constructing new roads, widening existing ones, and upgrading gravel roads to paved surfaces. 20.
