Today's #SNAP payment error rate announcement is not positive for most States. If you accept federal dollars, you must administer the program with integrity and by the rules of the road. Anything less than that is disrespectful to the program, its beneficiaries, and to the millions of taxpayers footing the bill. Even the @washingtonpost Editorial Board agrees.

🚨 NWS UPDATE: @USDA has confirmed a new New World Screwworm case in a goat in Terrell County, Texas. The case was identified in a castration site wound. NWS only infests open wounds — it does not affect healthy skin. This detection is approximately 180 miles west of the initial Texas detection and 74 miles west of the nearest previously confirmed case. For context: Mexico has reported over 29,000 cases since November 2024 and currently has around 1,800 active cases. The U.S. has 16 cases. USDA and state animal health officials are actively responding with enhanced surveillance and established containment protocols. Sterile flies will be dispersed imminently as part of our aggressive eradication efforts.

🚨NWS UPDATE: In the last 24 hours, 1 lamb in Crockett County, TX and 2 calves in Edwards County, TX have tested positive for New World Screwworm, bringing the total number of domestic confirmed detections to 15. @USDA has already taken action and will be starting sterile fly dispersal flights over Crockett County (outside current affected areas) immediately.

NEW WORLD SCREWWORM WEEKLY UPDATE: MAJOR PROGRESS THIS WEEK ✅ No new NWS detections in the U.S. in one week in any of the current affected areas — zero NWS caught in any of 8,000 traps along the border, confirming no widespread infestation ✅ Awarded $105 million to 40 recipients for NWS research and innovation under the NWS Grand Challenge ✅ Panama approved field trials for NovoFly™️, which will effectively double sterile fly production output by producing 100% sterile male NWS flies ✅ Millions of sterile flies continue to be strategically dispersed in key areas ✅ The Texas dispersal facility, which opened early 2026, is operational and already proving to be a game changer ✅ In May 2025, USDA provided Mexico funding and support to construct and operationalize the Metapa production facility, which is on schedule to be completed by the end of this month with full production capacity of 100M sterile flies by the end of the year.
