June 2026 featured a number of damaging thunderstorm events with a couple of tornadoes as well ranging from western New England to the Mid-Atlantic. Heat also made some marks from Washington, D.C. to North Carolina. Here is a look back at some notable dates and events.

Our survey teams confirmed two tornadoes: an EF-1 just south of Rock Stream in Yates Co & an EF-0 near Cortland in Cortland Co. Additional locations were surveyed in Cortland though it was determined that strong winds were the cause of damage east of where the tornado lifted.

Driving south on I-81 near Cortland NY under a rain wrapped mesocyclone, I began seeing leaves and small branches flying above my car and to the left/behind me. It felt like either strong RFD or a tornado passing behind me. @NWSBinghamton plans to survey the damage. #nywx

Looks like a funnel cloud or possible tornado earlier in Cortland where there were several damage reports. I will be curious to see which areas NWS Binghamton surveys

@voglerweather These were about the only photos I got. As you can see, there wasn’t much to see under the meso lol. Very rain wrapped
@voglerweather What damage reports did you see? I’d be interested to see them. I was right under the meso while in Cortland on I-81. Crazy winds were whipping above me and leaves/branches were flying. I would not be surprised if I was next to a rain wrapped tornado.
