Tbh, when he announced SSI, I also thought they would go for a one shot approach without any release before actual superintelligence haha. Yeah, something happened at Google... If anything, I wouldn't have predicted that Demis wanted to leave. I was even wondering whether he might replace Sundar... We don't know anything about SSI's model architecture right now, but I assume Vera Rubin is just too great that it currently make sense for them to allocate capex elsewhere. Musk said he's basically taking the same approach: "Going forward, we've decided to build exclusively on Nvidia because we think the Vera Rubin architecture is the best architecture."

Ilya's SSI is set to release its first model this August. Most people expect it to be just another model... Remember the company's mission? In April 2026, IonQ published the Walking Cat architecture. It's the industry's first end-to-end, detailed, manufacturable blueprint of a fault-tolerant quantum computer. It specifies how systems will execute operations while actively correcting errors and is designed to scale to millions of qubits. In the quarter, key element was validated on hardware: breakeven quantum error correction using quantum low-density parity-check (QLDPC) codes on a Tempo engineering test system. The published results are a major validation of IonQ's error-correction capabilities. From a scaling perspective, breakeven QLDPC on a temporal test system is meaningful because QLDPC codes offer higher encoding rates than surface codes, reducing the physical-qubit overhead required for a given logical error rate. Combined with the already-high physical fidelities, this lowers the polynomial cost of reaching utility-scale logical qubits.
