id's frankfurt office, which mostly focuses on the id tech engine, has been hit by layoffs. I've been told that half were let go today, in line with other locations earlier this week. this follows concern that the engine could be on the chopping block (which id has refuted)

enjoying doom’s latest chapter is bittersweet because of the layoffs particularly at id software. as bad as it feels, i like caring and wondering about the people who made this game, its excellent level design, improved soundscape and music, and blazing fast gameplay. im glad to be caring about the humans that made it, that it’s not just content for the sake of it. im grateful to the people who made it, to their talents and skill to finish killer projects consistently for the last 10 years. what a legacy!

@s1nicki Yup, I want new physical games for the PS6. Crazy to think that it could very well be a $1000+ device and yet it'll take away features that have been standard for so long. Hell, I want the damn ability to back up my saves to a USB drive back, they stopped doing that on PS5.

cutting physical media cuts costs only for the company. they get to save on production, design, shipping and still charge the same thing with nothing being passed on to the consumer
