I am requesting a full refund of all travel costs, including the additional expenses I incurred for the new flight and shuttle. Furthermore, I ask that you investigate the conduct of both Zoey and the original agent to ensure that no other passengers are subjected to such discriminatory and inhumane treatment. Here is what transpired: While waiting in line at baggage drop-off, the counter agent informed us that my mother, grandmother, and I could not carry purses along with our personal items. We complied, placing the purses into our backpacks. My grandmother, who was in a wheelchair, does not speak English and relies on her medication—stored in her purse—to manage her health. I explained the situation to the agent, who consulted with another employee named Zoey. Zoey insisted that if my grandmother needed to keep her purse, we would have to check her backpack, which we had not planned to do. Under pressure, we moved the purse into the backpack to comply. The same agent then required us to measure our backpacks, despite the fact that I had not seen a single other passenger asked to do the same during the 15-20 minutes we waited in line. I believe we were singled out because of our accents, which felt discriminatory and unfair. Although the bags fit perfectly in the bin—even confirmed by the airport assistant helping with my grandmother’s wheelchair—the staff continued to insist otherwise.
