🌡️ An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect across New York through the holiday weekend, with temperatures near 100°F. Our Older Adult Centers are open as cooling centers, offering older New Yorkers a safe, air-conditioned place to stay cool and hydrated.

More than 100 older adults joined us at the Red Oak Older Adult Center for our annual Community Health + Wellness Fair. Thank you to our community partners for making this a day of connection, learning, and self-care, including relaxing hand and foot massages for participants!

A major milestone for WSFSSH! We celebrated the opening of Fischer Senior Apartments, a new 105-unit affordable and supportive housing community in the Bronx for older adults. The event also launched our Enhanced Care pilot program and kicked off our 50th anniversary year!

Last month, we rallied to tell @NYCMayor and @NYCCouncil that an affordable NYC must include #JustPay for the workers who make our city livable. It’s simple: equal work deserves equal wages. Pass Int 0452 now!

When we build for New Yorkers, communities thrive 🏙️ Comptroller Mark Levine stopped by the Upper West Side to see affordable housing in action and what’s still to come. This is what it looks like when we do the hard work: more housing, stronger infrastructure, and real investments that make life better for New Yorkers.

W. 108th St between Columbus & Amsterdam Ave used to be home to several old parking garages for 500+ cars. When a plan emerged in 2018 to knock down two garages to build affordable housing there was bitter opposition, with claims that the area would be less safe and that there’d be a parking nightmare in the neighborhood. In the years since the project opened in 2022 none of those fears proved true. The block is safer and more beautiful than ever. And most importantly it now includes 240 deeply affordable homes. It’s been so successful than now the third and final garage on the block is going to be knocked down for an add’l building with another 84 units. There is a lesson here. From congestion pricing to installing a Citi bike dock to building affordable housing, local projects that are opposed when they are proposed almost always win support once they are up and running. Let’s remember that for the next fight.

Last Friday, we broke ground on WSFSSH at West 108th St Phase II bringing 84 affordable homes for older adults to the Upper West Side. Hearing from a Phase I resident was a powerful reminder of what stable housing makes possible. Proud to build what comes next.
