Deportation Is The Headline. The Cover Up Is The Story Today, Thursday 2 July 2026, the man his victims called Daddy walks free. Shabir Ahmed is seventy three years old. He has served fourteen years of the sentences handed down in 2012 for the rape and sexual abuse of children in and around Rochdale. He leaves prison on licence, tagged, placed in accommodation staffed around the clock, barred from an exclusion zone drawn around Rochdale and Oldham. He stays on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life. He cannot be sent back to Pakistan The Immigration Act 1971 shields him because he arrived in this country before 1973. Stripping him of his British citizenship changed nothing. He tore up his Pakistani passport long ago and Islamabad will not take him back. And so the grandstanding began. Andy Burnham is days from Downing Street. On the eve of Ahmed's release the man who expects to be Prime Minister by the end of the month went onto X to announce that nothing was off the table, that he would be asking the Home Secretary and the Foreign Secretary to review every possible option to remove Ahmed from the country. Victims must come first, he wrote. Shame his Assurance Reviews did not think the same when they failed to take the testimony of a single Pakistani Rape Gang survivor over a period of almost 7 years. Burnham's review into Ahmed could not compel a single witness. It could look only at the evidence placed in front of it. Its terms of reference were set by Oldham Council, the very body under examination. The very organisation where Ahmed worked, selling children from behind his desk at the council offices. Burnham and his Labour Party did everything possible to prevent a National Inquiry. They knew that such a Public Inquiry would would have the power to ask questions that would end careers.
