Meon Valley Golf and Country Club [Phillimore Estates] adjoin Five Oaks Farm which is the site of a proposed quarry and landfill development in Hampshire. WRA was commissioned to review the hydrological aspects of the proposed quarry and subsequent landfill.

The Arun Hydroelectric Scheme in NE Nepal will consist of 5 major dams in cascade. Construction of Arun-3 began in 2018, with completion due in 2023. WRA has a long involvement in Nepal & Nick Mandeville is acting as hydrologist on the Dam Safety Panel of Experts Upper Arun HEP.

Berehill Farm is a pig farm in the North Wessex Downs, underlain by Seaford Chalk and subject to NVZ & SPZ rules. WRA was commissioned by the owners to develop a Surface Water Management Plan using SUDS to satisfy planning conditions issued by Hampshire County Council.

WRA was commissioned by Friends of The Fields Iffley, [Oxford] to undertake a hydrological survey of the Meadow Lane & Church Way field area to assess the risk of flooding and possible impacts to the environment if the area is developed for housing. Photo of flooding last winter.

As member of a team of Chinese and international experts, Ben Piper recently provided Technical Assistance for policy advice on the Yangtze River Protection Law with the aim of strengthening protection and restoration of ecology and water resources in the Yangtze River basin.

WRA undertook a review of metals in European wastewaters from urban sources, looking at background levels and impact of treatment. Variations between countries reflected use of copper in plumbing/architecture while industrial pollution was more significant in eastern Europe.

Bangladesh Project for Innovate UK. WRA is testing new technology with Oxford Molecular Biosensors [omb.co.uk] working with colleagues at Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology Dhaka. Here, sampling on R Lee, continuous water quality data at monitor site

Arsenic & salinity, derived from rift valley groundwater and springs, and industrial activities contaminate Lake Beseka in Ethiopia, a source of water supply & flow into River Awash. Paul Whitehead is working with the AWASH Water Authority to model these polluted streams.

A Norfolk landowner recently completed comprehensive river restoration works at the Environment Agency's request, following illegal dredging and channel clearance. WRA reviewed design, carried out additional hydrodynamic modelling and provided expert witness services.

Dr Harvey Rodda & Paul Holmes recently collaborated with H Fraser Consulting on a study of stream discharge & sediment yield in the catchment affecting Perran Foundry Leat in Cornwall. Sediment was modelled using QSWAT: drainage schematic & predicted annual sediment shown here.

Paul Holmes recently carried out another Tier-1 risk Groundwater Risk Assessment to support the client’s application to renew an environmental permit for discharge of treated sewage effluent at Muthu Clumber Hotel and Spa, near Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

WRA installed staff gauge and InSitu Troll-100 loggers at a V-Notch weir in Beaumont Creek adjacent to a winter storage reservoir for local farmer near Harkstead, Suffolk. This formed part of compliance with licence conditions to identify conditions when abstraction may occur.

As part of the WRA-Oxford REACH programme, reachwater.org.uk, a major modelling study of flow and water quality has been undertaken for pollution control of Dhaka River Systems in Bangladesh, by Paul Whitehead, Gianba Bussi, Li Jin and colleagues in Bangladesh.

WRA is providing support in hydrometeorology for the Simandou Iron Ore Project [Guinea] to SRK Consulting engaged in providing water related and geotechnical inputs to the mine Bankable Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Assessment.
