Small caps are not cheap anymore. The Nifty Small Cap index is trading at a PE of 33 and its own 5-year average is 26, which infact is a 27% premium to its own history. A lot of people are buying small caps right now because they worked really well in 2022, 2023, and 2024 as the returns were great. Which signals that people are chasing last cycle's winners. When you are paying 33 times earnings for a small company, you need a lot of things, Earnings have to keep growing, Sentiments has to stay positive and Liquidity has to stay in the market. If any one of those things creates an imbalance, the correction in valuations can be sharp. Meanwhile Nifty top 10 stocks are trading below their 10-year average valuations which tells us their PE is cheaper versus their own history. Cycles always revert, they always have. @a_blue_jay What can we say about the markets or life that's a certainty?
Nifty dipped 10%. Then 8%. Now just 2%. If you look at the Nifty 50 chart on the daily timeframe, what you are seeing is a volatility contraction. First there was a 10% dip. Then an 8% dip. Now the pullbacks are only 3%. The top line, the resistance level, is staying the same while the dips are getting smaller. If Nifty breaks out from this zone, the technical target is the depth of the pattern which is approximately 10%. From 24,000 that takes us to 26,400, which is also near the previous 52-week high. That is the first minimum target if we break out from here.
