Today the ARW marks its 45th Anniversary with a solemn ceremony in memory of deceased members, joined by ARWA veterans and honoured guests. The commemoration concludes with a display of the unit’s modern capabilities and equipment.

Remembering our friend and colleague Sgt Colm Kavanagh (Retd.) who passed away this morning. Colm was the first Defence Forces medic to undergo selection and spent many years in the unit. May he Rest In Peace.
I’m going to be publishing a story later @thejournal_ie, just after midnight, which will tell the story of some of the fellas in this pic & other DF people who were key to making Op Piano a success. More details to come but it will be the definitive telling of this story.

Great to see the announcement of a new ARW HQ and advanced training facilities, including a “Kill House”. This was our training facility back in the day, onwards and upwards !!
Today, Colonel Gareth Prendergast PhD launches his book CLEAR HOLD BUILD - ‘How the Free State Won the Irish Civil War’. Using both his academic and military experience, Colonel Prendergast forensically analyses the Irish Civil War from a new perspective, by using the lens of modern counterinsurgency doctrine to connect tactical actions to strategic success of the Irish Free State. We wish to congratulate Col Prendergast on the completion and launch of his book and wish him every success with it.
16th March 1980, and following the recommendations to the Minister of Defence, the Army Ranger Wing was established. In March 2001 we celebrated our 21st anniversary and the following poem was penned by our own Ranger Henry O’Donnell (RIP). Today we celebrate our 45 anniversary.
Tonight we celebrate the 45 Anniversary of the establishment of the ARW. We also remember our former colleagues and friends who passed away in the last twelve months. May they Rest In Peace.
The Defence Forces can confirm that all Irish personnel are well and accounted for. The 124 Infantry Battalion area of operations is reported to be relatively calm today, with no operational activity noted from Camp Shamrock (UNP 2-45) and its two outposts UNP 6-50 and UNP 6-52. Today, two resupply convoys successfully delivered over 100,000 liters of raw water to UNP 2-45. Additionally, through a third-party contract funded by Defence Forces, 2200 cases of bottled water (totalling 26,400 litres) were delivered to UNP 2-45 today. This delivery complements a fresh food supply received on 09 October, which added nearly seven days' worth of provisions to the Battalion's stores.
Situation Update on Irish Defence Forces serving with overseas missions in Lebanon for family members The Defence Forces can reconfirm that all personnel in Lebanon are well and accounted for, and are maintaining vigilance in their mission areas. They are strictly following all UN security precautions, including taking shelter when necessary. Robust force protection measures are in place and regularly updated to ensure their safety. Our troops are highly trained, well-equipped, and prepared to handle the demands of peacekeeping in this volatile region. 75% of the 124 Infantry Battalion personnel have previous overseas experience. The Unit is pulling on this experience, gained in many different peacekeeping missions around the world. This enables them adapt to certain changes in this current deployment. They remain steadfast in their determination and resilience to fulfill the mission.
Remembering our colleague and friend Cpl. Terry Murphy whose 15th Anniversary occurs today. Terry was an expert parachutist, with many hundreds of military and civilian jumps under his belt. Through his knowledge and experience, he helped evolve parachuting in the Defence Forces.
