Arthur Hayes: AI Bubble May Resemble 2008 Credit Crisis, Bitcoin Could Benefit From Monetary Easing BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes published a new essay, Situationship, arguing that the AI investment boom resembles a real estate buildout rather than a traditional technology cycle. He said excessive investment in data centers and related infrastructure could make an eventual AI bubble burst more similar to the 2008 credit crisis than the 2000 dot-com crash. Hayes believes any resulting monetary easing and liquidity expansion by central banks would ultimately fuel a renewed bull market for Bitcoin and the broader crypto market.

The high-radix AI fabric switch is in volume production and will become Astera’s single largest product family in Q3, one quarter ahead of prior guidance. The lead hyperscaler ramps to high volume in Q3, with 10+ customers engaged and more ramping into late 2026/early 2027. Notably, they’re designed into multiple platforms even at that one lead customer. 2. Dollar content per chip is exploding. At IPO, Astera earned ~$50–100 per accelerator. Now it’s “multiple thousands,” with the Scorpio X switch alone worth $1,000+ per XPU, and that’s before UALink, optical, and higher signal-conditioning attach push it further. This is management’s answer to “how do you keep growing”: stack more content onto each chip. 3. Aries (the “boring” retimer business) quietly hit a record. Analysts expected only modest growth; instead it was the largest product line. Gen 5 is lasting far longer than expected as inference workloads create new demand, and Gen 6 layers on higher attach rates and ASPs. Management: retimers are “a socket that keeps on giving,” and the cycle continues through Gen 7. 4. The software is becoming the moat. Scorpio’s COSMOS platform has moved from telemetry/diagnostics into the orchestration layer, XPUs now talk directly to the switch to shape workloads, cutting latency and boosting GPU utilization (~2x on collective training ops). That crossover into “coprocessor” territory makes the solution far stickier generation to generation. 5. UALink is a tailwind, not a threat. As customers move from PCIe to UALink for scale-up, Astera’s dollar content per XPU rises. UALink 2.0 codified exactly the features (in-network compute, 200G SerDes) Astera already invested in. UALink-enabled Scorpio X switches land in 2027. 6. Optical is the next multi-billion leg. Copper and optical coexist near-term (scale-up within a rack stays copper), but as clusters span more racks, optical unlocks “tens of billions” in TAM. Roadmap: NPO in 2027, CPO in 2028+, eventually a fully optical Scorpio switch. The aiXscale acquisition gives them the full optical-engine stack. 7. CXL memory is finally waking up. After years of investment, three use cases are converging: memory-cost workarounds, GPU/accelerator attach (KV cache acceleration for inference), and general HPC compute. Leo controllers ship in volume to two US hyperscalers in 2027. The memory shortage/pricing environment is a direct tailwind. 8. Margins hold; China stays small. Q3 gross margin guided to ~72%, trending toward a ~70% long-term target as the mix broadens. China is a real but capped opportunity, growing in absolute terms but staying in the single digits as a percentage of revenue. Bottom line: $ALAB is transforming from a signal-conditioning supplier into a full AI-fabric platform, and the Q&A was management methodically showing each lever, Scorpio, software stickiness, UALink, optical, CXL, that pushes its take per AI chip from ~$100 at IPO toward “multiple thousands.”
