We see this (albeit in a somewhat different form) with Umamusume characters, and it can get funny sometimes. Like we have characters like Special Week and Gold Ship, whose abbreviations/nicknames prioritize their "first" names (Spe-chan, Golshi). But then with the horsegirls whose names include the crown names of the real life farms (Agnes Tachyon, Symboli Rudolf, Tokai Teio, ect) it's the second of their two names that becomes the one they're referred to by. And then we also have the ones with only a single name period, like Vodka and Maruzensky lol It also makes me really wish the franchise had the rights to the name Bonecrusher (Ellerslie Pride in Cinderella Gray), since just imagine the other characters casually calling her Bonecrusher. 🤣

Eh, I think there's room to try a more grounded attempted solution (which, as already mentioned, didn't wind up working). Narratively a more mundane sort of method of fighting Godzilla also better reflects just how messed up Japan was at that point in history as it tried to rebuild (mirroring the main character trying to rebuild his personal life) only for a nuclear monster to start tearing it all down again. It's also clearly going to start going in at least a somewhat more out-there science fictiony direction if the tease at the end with the protag's girlfiend's Gozilla radiation scar was any indication.

@Dutch_Agent @DrunkKobold Sure, but I also think it's neat to explore the sort of solutions to the Godzilla problem that people in immediate postwar Japan might come up with. More out-there sci-fi solutions work better with Japan in the 1950s or later, after the postwar recovery & development period.

(And it also leaves the option open to bring in the oxygen destroyer in a sequel if they so choose.)
