While the Press will be focused on the battle for the Labour leadership and Conservatives celebrating our win in Aberdeen, there are two people I want to pay tribute to. The first is @Winstamike who was an excellent candidate for us in Makerfield. He represented our party with grace, dignity and competence. The result was no reflection on him but on the circumstances of a peculiar by-election where the question was not “who would be the best representative?” but “should Andy Burnham challenge Keir Starmer for the Labour leadership?” The second is @j_cruickshanks whose valiant efforts in Arbroath and Broughty Ferry took us from 3rd behind Labour to 2nd place, increasing the Conservative vote share. By-elections can be more intense than general elections because of the focus and scrutiny. I am proud of all our Conservative candidates this morning. Part of a strong, united team.
Labour plans to expand the already bloated and costly public sector payroll by the largest amount in the history of the Civil Service. Cost up, productivity down. You’ll be paying for it. All to please their union donor mates.
🚨BREAKING🚨 @RobertJenrick has joined @AndyBurnhamGM’s leadership campaign after his win in Makerfield in a surprise defection from Reform. Jenrick reportedly justified his move saying he “always loved Oasis and barms.”
✅ BURNHAM IN Makerfield by-election result: LAB: 54.8% (+9.6) REF: 34.5% (+2.7) RST: 6.8% (+6.8) CON: 2.2% (-8.7) GRN: 0.7% (-3.7) LDEM: 0.4% (-6.4)
BREAKING: Borrowing is out of control - up by 30% compared to last year - and now we’re about to see what a real left wing Labour government looks like under Andy Burnham. Burnham claims he is committed to the fiscal rules, yet when asked he could not even say what they are. The bond markets are watching nervously and we have already been paying a Burnham Penalty on our borrowing costs. Meanwhile, Reform have been busy pledging tens of billions in unfunded promises in their desperation to win in Makerfield. The Conservatives are the only party with a plan to balance the books by getting spending under control, especially the welfare bill, in line with our Golden Economic Rule.
Public sector net borrowing excluding public sector banks was £23.3 billion in May 2026, £5.4 billion (30.4%) more than in May 2025. Read more ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/govern…

The deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, owns a property company - Quidnet REIT. From 2020 to 2022 it paid Tice and his trust £600k in dividends. Quidnet should have paid £120k of tax on those dividends. It didn't. A 🧵 with evidence from the company's own filings:

Reform claim this would conveniently pay for itself. They say the economic boost could mean £8bn of revenues over 10 years which "will easily repay the £2bn up-front cost." Except it's not an up-front cost, it's annual - a £2bn tax cut for 10 years costs £20bn. Oh dear. (3/7)
Claire is a Mayor - someone who controls a large budget. Here she notes a weekly increase in diesel prices of 5%. Diesel comes from oil which has increased ~9% in a week. On that metric their profit margin will DECREASE. We deserve better politicians than this.
This is @Tesco Ollerton. At the beginning of the week diesel was 150p, hiked up from the previous week. At lunchtime today it was 154p. This afternoon 156.9p. Its just one of many. So all power to @RachelReevesMP to stop this blatant profiteering.
